It will be a battle of Brazilians at UFC on Versus 3 as Rousimar Palhares and Alexandre “Cacareco” Ferreira have agreed to meet at the March 3 show rumored to take place in Louisville, KY.
The fight was confirmed to MMAWeekly.com by sources close to the match-up, who indicated that the fight has been agreed to verbally by both fighters, but bout agreements have not be signed at this point. Tatame.com first reported the fight.
Palhares (11-3) returns to action for the first time since suffering a TKO loss to Nate Marquardt back in September. The Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt has been very successful in most of his fights in the Octagon, with the exception of the Marquardt fight and an earlier loss to Dan Henderson in his second fight for the UFC.
The long time member of Brazilian Top Team looks to get back on the winning track in a bout against a fellow countryman who needs a win to guarantee a UFC future.
Alexandre “Cacareco” Ferreira (18-6) made no bones about his wish to get into the UFC. A potential bout with Lyoto Machida almost happened a couple of years back, and he finally got his shot with the promotion in November, but the results did not play out how he wanted them to.
A first round stoppage courtesy of Vladdy Matyushenko set Cacareco back after his debut, and he will now drop down to 185lbs to try to see if he has better luck against Palhares.
The bout between Palhares and Ferreira has not been announced by the UFC, and there’s been no word if the fight will make the televised broadcast set for Versus on March 3.
