Round 5 on Monday announced the latest grouping of UFC fighters to be immortalized as collectible figurines by the company. “Ultimate Collector” Series 5 will be comprised of Vitor Belfort, Shane Carwin, Nate Diaz, and Thiago Silva. The series is scheduled to be available for retail purchase in early 2011.
“Ultimate Collector” Series 5 will continue a popular marketing approach that Round 5 has employed in the past: the inclusion of “chase” items, which will include special accessories or variants hidden in a limited number of packages available at random stores.
“Our first Series of 2011 has four fighters who have been requested often by fans, and who are all new to Round 5,” said Round 5 president Damon Lau. “Collectors have enjoyed finding the ‘chase’ items in previous Series, so we’re excited to continue that with these new figures.”
Belfort is on tap to challenge UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva on Super Bowl weekend in February in the main event of UFC 126. Nate Diaz will face Don Hyung Kim and Thiago Silva squares off with Brandon Vera at UFC 125 on New Year’s Day. Carwin was going to fight at UFC 125 against Roy Nelson, but is on the shelf after opting for surgery to fix back problems.
Past Round 5 “Ultimate Collector” figures include fighters such as UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre, UFC Hall of Famers Chuck Liddell and Randy Couture, UFC middleweight titleholder Anderson Silva, UFC president Dana White, B.J. Penn, Brock Lesnar, and more.
