Ronda Rousey and Miesha Tate TUF 18 CoachesUFC women’s middleweight champion Ronda Rousey says coaching season 18 of The Ultimate Fighter has been emotionally taxing and tiring, but the experience exceeded her expectations.

Rousey (7-0) was named the first female coach of the popular reality show and was originally supposed to coach opposite Cat Zingano.  Zingano earned the opportunity to coach The Ultimate Fighter and solidified her place as No. 1 contender to Rousey’s crown by defeating Miesha Tate in April.  A knee injury, however, forced Zingano off the show and out of the anticipated title fight with Rousey. She was replaced by Rousey’s longtime rival, Tate.

During the UFC 161: Henderson vs. Evans media day on June 14, UFC president Dana White said the filming of this season of the reality is going “bad.”

“Miesha and Ronda hate each other,” said White. “It’s like literally crazy drama every day.”

For Rousey, coaching has been more work than she anticipated.

“It’s a lot more work than I thought it would be, and it’s a lot more emotionally taxing than I thought it would be.  You care a lot about these kids.  I just felt like any kind of heartbreak or triumph, whatever they’re going through, I share in it.  It’s exhausting going through that over and over and over with every competitor,” she said during a Facebook chat sponsored by Metro PCS on Wednesday.  “You’re just so emotionally invested in every person that it really takes a lot out of you.”

Rousey was impressed with the level of talent on the upcoming season, set to debut this Fall on Fox Sports 1.

“The talent is great.  I’m really impressed with the kind of people that we saw on the show this season for the girls and the guys.  All of the fights have been really exciting.  Really, it has exceeded my expectations.”

For the first time, The Ultimate Fighter features male and female competitors living in the same house, while competing separately for a UFC contract.  Coach Rousey says there isn’t the sexual tension some have speculated there would be, but said it’s been an emotional season.

“Surprisingly, it is much more professional than you would have thought.  I wouldn’t say it’s an overly sexual season, but I think it’s a much more emotional one,” she said.  “So far, it’s tiring, and it’s every day.  It’s been a very exciting season, but it has also been very taxing on everybody.  So I think we’re all going to be very happy to get home, but I’m sure all the fans will be very happy with the result.”

Must be hard keeping that fake Diaz meanmug on your face and pretend you actually know how to fight and aren’t just a 2 move joke with a lot of luck.

    • Raymond Gonzalez

      wow. just wow.

    • Agent119

So why is taking her opponents so long to figure this out? I don’t think they are laughing at her joke.

    • Everybody has to start somewhere, but it’s not like she’s just a girl who’s having “luck”; she’s an olympic judoka who’s working on other aspects of martial arts to sharpen up her game. Everybody she has fought so far has had more mma fights then her. What do you think of the Tate rematch? Anyone else you can think of who you’d like to see her fight? I’m just pissed that her and Cyborg couldn’t just fight a catchweight fight since their trash talk got pretty heated up.

How do you know she has only two moves? If no one can stop the “two moves” why should she show anything else? Seriously……….

    • Mark McDowall

Can’t really argue with that!! It’s like when people bitch…oh all so and so does is lay on his opponents…well if they don’t like it then do something to get him off you or shut up!!!

People know what Rousey is gonna do. Armbar, duh! The biggest puzzle is besides Carmouche (who still lost), who else can beat Ronda away from their arm and defeat her? It’s not her moveset that’s problematic, it’s her will. Who can beat the will out of Rousey. As of now, no one. However, like Silva, she can be beaten.

    • MMAMA

That’s exactly the thing… everyone knows she’s going to armbar, so it’s up to her opponents to counter it. She is the champion, after all. Just like how GSP ground’n’pounds. Everyone knows he’s going to do that, so it’s up to his opponents to find a solution. If they fail to do so, it’s hardly the fault of the champion continuing on with a winning strategy. Why fix something that’s not broken..?

Bruh. You have Mickey Mouse as your avi. You fail at life and your opinions are AUTOMATICALLY IRRELEVANT.

When you do something once it can be considered luck, but when you have medaled in the Olympics with countless Judo bouts not to mention numerous amateur MMA, and professional MMA fights without a loss that’s considered skill whether you agree with the fighters technique or not.

She makes it sound like her team lost a lot the way she talks about going through heart break with these girls “over and over”

    • Familia Perez

I believe there are men and women contestants. Could be wrong however. She’s probably referring to the enormous amount of hype (her dislike of Meisha and Bryan Tate) and drama with all the women under the same roof, in addition to the competition.

  • Chris weidman

Anyone notice he said middleweight champion?

  • Quest Nichols

Hold up, when did Ronda move up to middleweight? She’s already got more cut arms than I do at bantamweight. Dammit!

  • CrazyWorldFullOfGreed

The future of female MMA fighting is bleak when Rousey wins most fights by arm bar in round one. Personally I don’t want to see two women bloody each other’s faces either. Just not deep enough competition to be interesting. Is there female college wrestling in the USA? Need a talent pool to draw from. Sorry.

Just looking at Big Nose’s Tate’s face is taxing enough to actually look all day at that ugly face is criminal. made me sick just now.

Rhonda needs to snap Big Noses arm completely off and retire that mullion big nose Tate.
