02-Ronda-Rousey-UFC-170-w-0671-b-478x270UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey is one of the busiest people in mixed martial arts. She made her professional debut in March 2011 and hasn’t slowed down since. She’s coached a season of The Ultimate Fighter and filmed The Expendables 3, Fast & Furious 7 and Entourage over the last calendar year.

On July 5, Rousey will put her title on the line for the fourth time when she faces Alexis Davis in the UFC 175: Weidman vs. Machida co-main event. Following the fight, Rousey plans to take a well-deserved vacation.

“I keep talking about how I’m going to take a break. I really do say every time I’m in camp, ‘oh man, I can’t wait to take a vacation,’ and I really need it this time. I think I’m really going to do it this time,” Rousey recently told The Great MMA Debate Podcast.

“I think I’m going to take a vacation in August, probably like the end of August or beginning of September. I might even go somewhere for like a month just to break it up a little bit because I have been constantly on the go, charging it since 2010 it feels like. I work in quadrennials. So it’s 2014 now. It’s like I’ve gone through a whole Olympic cycle. I’m ready to take a little bit of a break after this one,” she said.

While Rousey has grown accustomed to her fast-paced lifestyle, she knows that eventually she’s going to have to takes some time off.

“I can’t go forever, or I will end up burning the candle at both ends at some point. So I’m just going to beat Alexis, I’m going to promote this movie, and then I’m really going to take some time to rest a little bit,” said the 27-year-old.

But there’s no need to panic. Rousey isn’t planning to take an extended hiatus from the sport. She’ll be back in the Octagon before long.

“My version of taking a little bit of time to rest might be much different than Georges St-Pierre’s, where he needs so long that he needs to give up his belt,” she said. “I don’t plan on taking that long of a break, long for me, which is probably like a month of doing something else. One month of just not training.”

“But there’s no need to panic. Rousey isn’t planning to take an extended hiatus from the sport”

I think you misunderstand what we would like Ronda to do

    • Seth

Well…Now that’s crazy…but there are actually people that want to watch her fight. Go back and watch your heavyweights hugging each other for 15 minutes.

      • Timothy Malone

Do you watch men’s MMA? Here is the top heavyweights:

Cain Velasquez–12 KOs to 2 decisions
Fabricio Werdum–5 KOs and 9 subs to 4 decisions
Junior Dos Santos–12 KOs and 2 subs to 2 decisions
Travis Browne–12 KOs and 2 subs to 2 decisions
Antonio Silva–13 KOs and 3 subs to 2 decisions

Kinda confused at how every single one of the top guys manages a finishing rate of 80% when they do so much “hugging for 15 minutes”

If women’s MMA is so great to watch they can all go fight in Invicta and it will get bigger ratings than UFC

        • Seth

I wasn’t taking about EACH HW. You picked top of the top, thinking you are smart. Typical HWs have no cardio to go more than 5 minutes, so if its not first round KO – usually its boring a** decision. WMMA and lower weight classes at least have some action, because guys have a cardio to move around and do something, instead staying in the middle of the cage, throwin haymakers, or taking you down and trying to hold you there more than Askren or Fitch could ever hold you.

      • TheCerealKiller

I don’t want to see women fight. Put them on an all female card to not waste my PPV money. I bet they will never do it because it would fail.

        • fsunoles10

so because you and some jack ass who doesnt seem to know what he wants out of a mma fight dont want to see her this applies to the mma landscape as a whole. you and ol clueless are individuals, neither of you speak for the masses which this is more directed towards the other guy cuz he used more of a generalization than you did. the reality is rousey is geniunely exciting to watch and if you think otherwise than i dont know wtf you want to see from an mma fight. she shows insane skill, finishes fights, works hard and has a personality in which you either want to see her win or want to see her get ko. what more can you ask for out of a champ.

          • TheCerealKiller

Sorry, I just don’t like seeing women fight. Like someone else said, she is the Gracie, Fedor, Severn etc of women’s MMA. As long as she can throw and arm bar people at will, it shows the competition is not very good. Cyborg is the only other woman on the planet on her level. So…

          • Seth

UFC’s PPV is build a way to ensure that everbody finds something for them. You have 5 fights on PPV – if one of them is female fight, just go to the kitchen, make yourselve a sandwich and wait 5-10minutes, take a tiolet break or go for a beer and come to enjoy rest of the card :) It’s really simple :)

    • riverdawg

In a sport where we see a plethora of boring, uninspired efforts from fighters who would rather hang on for dear life and stall then go for the finish, we have a woman’s bantamweight champion that is undefeated and has finished all her opponents in exciting fashion. Why wouldn’t anyone wanna watch her fights? Its stupid how much people hate on her coz of her attitude or whatever.

      • TheCerealKiller

WMMA has about as much appeal to me as the WNBA. I can’t stand watching most of the women turn their heads and close their eyes while punching.

        • Ol’ Rooter

Apparently you don’t look at the majority of overhand rights thrown by the men in MMA.

          • TheCerealKiller

Yes, the men do the same when throwing overhand rights, but the women do it every other punch. I’ve even seen them slap each other, blindly flail, turn their back while standing and pull hair! I can give a WUFC example of each if you need it.

      • fsunoles10

you f’ing nailed it, everybody whines about people not finishing fights when it comes to the champs but they dont have that option when speaking about rousey so they have to go another route. mma fans act stupid as shit sometimes, although i shouldnt call these people with the petty arguments real mma fans.

      • Shartnado2, the Sloppy One

the only reason she’s not a staller is cause she hasnt learned how to, she would if she could

    • Drakman

I don’t quite understand the problem. I thought her second fight with Meisha Tate was an entertaining competitive fight. She’s paving the way for women to be taken seriously in a sport where females have traditionally been window dressing. So she has an attitude problem at times, so does Chael Sonnen, the Diaz brothers, Daniel Cormier, Jon Jones and a ton of others. She’s a fighter, not a politician, so what if she trash talks people, so does half the NFL.

      • Seth

Entertaining. Yes. Competitive? Nope. How was it competitive? Tate was thrown a round EACH TIME she tried to do something. Her biggest accomplishment is what Caraway said in the corner “We survived first round”…and that’s about it. It was pretty much one sided beating.

    • Maddawgmar

Speak for yourself. I enjoy seeing her, her technique on the ground is masterful. Her Judo is practically flawless. And it doesn’t hurt that she is pleasing to look at. Her dedication and skill is higher than a lot of the current men’s champions. And that is awesome to see.

      • deepgrim

i like her skill set and watching her transitions on the ground, but i think she is so far ahead of the division that its hard to get excitied by her fights. hopefully the fight with alexis can be different but i doubt it. There are a few outside the ufc that may prove a good fight for her. dont be judge her the break she has had alot on the last year

  • laleggenda27

I’m not a Ronda fan….at all. Her petulant, childish attitude is hard to stomach. That being said, she always brings it in her fights and she’s an amazing athlete. She’s obviously been great for the sport and she’s a pioneer for WMMA. And something tells me that her striking skills are going to develop at an exponential rate (you can already see the development in her last couple of fights). If I were Cyborg, I’d try to make this fight happen ASAP, before Ronda reaches her full potential.

  • wherestheKOrousey?

wtf take a break?? she fought like twice!! shes running from cat. for somone who hates gsp shes acting just like him!!

    • Little Jimmy

Cat is in no state to compete yet. Shes rehabbing an injury and getting over the suicide of her partner! Never heard Ronda waffle on about how shes excited for the undefeated vs undefeated match with her? Its like every other interview, haha.

    • Seth

How you can ran from someone who don’t compete and will compete prolly early 2015? Just stupid comment…you realize how much Cat went through lately? Injury, surgery, rehab, her husband died…it’s not like Cat just won a fight and they should fight in next 3-4 months. In 3-4 months Cat MAY be able to come back and get a fight to see if she deserves a title shot at this point. Handing title fight like that to her would be freakin unfair.

  • Corey Hutton

Hopefully she is taking a break to learn how to fight, not just toss and armbar. Then Dana won`t have to pay off refs to stop fights early.

    • Ol’ Rooter

I assume you’re talking about the McMann fight. Go watch it again. McMann, while blindly trying to get up after that knee to the liver, was reaching for Rousey’s left leg with her right hand. If that fight lasted another 10 seconds, McMann’s right arm gets added to the collection.

    • fsunoles10

she just finished a fight with a liver shot bud, but are you really complaining about somebody finishing fights? instead of bitching about her breaking peoples arms all the time maybe you need to be whining about how none of these woman can stop it. if your whining ass was in the cage and the person across couldnt stop something you were good at you would expose this fact correct? if not you’re just an idiot

    • shakejunt

oh cmon, i don’t like her either but she’s simply more advanced than 99% of the others out there. she’s almost like a modern day royce.

      • BobGyro

        pfft

    • TwoFirstNames

You’re a special kind of stupid huh?

  • MMA Monster

I wish I could take a break a break from my 9 to 5 job turning wrenches. Come on rousey is my girl but give me a freakin break. What a joke.

    • fsunoles10

what people dont realize is a professional athlete works harder than you and its not even close, oh you turn a wrench how stressful. your body can only take so much and when you’re training constantly, your body is gonna ache, be sore etc more so than some average ass joe. i worked for a tree service for a while and id say thats pretty labor intensive and still doesnt come close to what i went thru playing sports my whole life and i never was a pro athlete and i know they work harder than i did playing sports. imagine doing this year around, so yeah dont ever try and compare yourself to a professional athlete cuz your body doesnt go thru anywhere near the stress.

  • TRT -rex

She works in quadrinals? So maybe she will be gone for a quadrinal so they can put an end to WMMA. ITS NOT entertaining especially when most girls cant win consistently except Ronda. After this fight I see her waiting for Cat then retiring regardless of the outcome. At least that’s what I hope

    • fsunoles10

rousey is as entertaining as they get in the womens division, there is a reason nobody can beat her. not gonna lie though cant get into the rest of the fights though. rousey is just so nasty from a skill perspective i dont even look at the fact that shes a girl, she is better than most guys right now.

    • Maddawgmar

So your saying that a division that is so competitive that fighters can’t put together more than a few wins in a row is boring? Or is it that the Champion is on a whole different level than the rest is boring. So you must hate the 125 and 145 pound divisions. Or is it that they are just women.

    • shakejunt

      clownshoe

  • shakejunt

only other serious contenders are cat and cyborg and they still have a few steps to take before getting into/back into the octagon so the break is fine by me.

  • George Sperry

Santos announces she will lose 10 pounds to chase Rousey who will not fight her, and Rousey suddenly needs a break.
    Please…

    • TwoFirstNames

      Cyborg won’t make 135

      • George Sperry

No she may not, but if she does Dana will NEVER let her fight his love crush.

        • TwoFirstNames

She has to make 135 consistently. AND pass all her drug tests. Then we can start to talk about her signing with the UFC and fighting Ronda

      • BobGyro

Thats bull$%t made up by dana black

        • TwoFirstNames

          Shut up kid

          • BobGyro

            wrong again

  • Robby Clark

I love how she compares her holding the belt to GSP when she says taking a break, but not as long as GSP… Except for the fact Ronda has fought 3 times in the UFC since 2013… And George fought 21 fighters in the UFC since 2004.

    Yea, I see the similarities

    • Robby Clark

FYI, I’m actually a big Ronda fan, just thought that looked kinda silly

  • Shartnado2, the Sloppy One

Translation, I want to tout the belt around for a year by doing apperances and movies without the troublesome training getting in the way . AND by the time I get back there will be opponents that arent 1000-1 underdogs so I might actually get hurt.

  • http://www.andthanks2u.com/?daphoenix31 Darryl Kc Jackson

Yea take a break Ronda soon holly or gina will come and beat your ass

  • BobGyro

When she beats Santos and Zingano, then she can compare herself to G.S.P or the greats till then get on it, and quit ducking the real competition.

    • TwoFirstNames

Cigano? Are you on crack? Why the f— would Rousey fight JDS?

    • TwoFirstNames

Cigano? WTF are you smoking? Why would Rousey fight JDS?

      • BobGyro

HUH ? u need glasses my friend!

        • TwoFirstNames

LOL don’t act like you didn’t edit your comment you queer. You know what you had commented at first

          • BobGyro

Your mother give birth to you at the top of a flight of stairs? admit you got it wrong

          • TwoFirstNames

You posted “Cigano”. Don’t be a pussy, own up to your BS kid

          • TwoFirstNames

You posted “Cigano”. Don’t be a p*ssy. Own up to your BS kid

    • Guest

And she’s not ducking Zingano. Idiots like you always make statements like that. Cat got injured. And then her f—in husband died. She wasn’t ready to fight. As far as Cyborg goes, she needs to actually make Bantamweight first. And pass her drug tests. Then we’ll see

    • TwoFirstNames

  • Yannick Messaoud

She gonna make the jump to movies like Carrano did for sure. After all why get beat up when you get a bigger pay check for acting.
