Ronda Rousey Adds the Diaz Brothers to Her Training Routine

Ronda Rousey StrikeforceThe next time Ronda Rousey defends her Strikeforce bantamweight title, she may have developed a new way to mean mug her opponent.

Following a brief vacation that she earned by submitting Miesha Tate in early March, Rousey is already getting back into the gym, and she’s adding some new training partners to her routine.

Rousey will be heading to Stockton, Calif., to work with Nick and Nate Diaz as well as the team at Cesar Gracie jiu-jitsu as she starts preparing for her next title defense.

“Yeah, I’m going up there from the 3rd to the 16th (of April) and it’s going to be the first time ever since I started doing MMA that I’m going to be training for an actual extended period of time away from my core camp, who I’ve always been with,” Rousey told MMAWeekly Radio recently.

Rousey got a chance to roll with Nick Diaz previously, and she says that traveling to different gyms during her judo career was a regular event, but she hasn’t done it since beginning her journey into MMA.

“When I did judo I used to go around all the time, like every month or so I would go away for a week or two weeks to go train somewhere else,” said Rousey. “For some reason it’s something I never did in MMA, so they invited me to come train up there, and they’re good at a bunch of things that I need to work on so I’m super excited. It’s going to be the first time I’m training away from home in a long time.”

While Rousey will definitely pick up some top notch training alongside Diaz and the other fighters in Stockton, she’s not leaving her home camp by any means.

Rousey has been working with her team and coaches in Los Angeles since she started, and she’s an L.A. girl for life.

She does however hope to keep the Diaz brothers and their team as regular training partners as she gets ready for her next title defense, presumably against Sarah Kaufman later this year.

“Oh yeah definitely, I hope it does,” Rousey said when asked if working with the Diaz brothers could become a regular part of her camp. “But I love L.A., I’ll never move away from here.”

LOL! He can also refine her “bird” technique. :oD

Very cool chick, though! I admire her, I think we (females) can kick ass too.

    • Anthony

Shes a world class bad ass–no denying it–Id kill to see her fight Cyborg–too bad shes suspended for a whole year–It would have been bigger then Cyborg vs Carrano and Rousey would have had a much better chance of winning . Oh well, maybe next year……..

      • Jeff

Actually I think this is the perfect opportunity for Rousey to work on her stand up. Shes not ready for MANBORG. Too strong and vicious in the stand up. If and when they do fight I want Rhonda to come out victorious. No point in rushing things. I think a couple more fights will be good before facing the SHE BEAST.

        • grimsgrind

if Rousey gets it to the ground though she WILL take Cyborgs arm…After seeing her take all these bitches’ arms, well knowing that she is going to go for that as soon as the bell rings, and STILL no one can defend, THAT is some sick judo. She’ll take manborg 4 out of 5 times. Especially since she’s dry now.

  • LongDongSilver

Maybe classless clown will retire after losing too, so sick of team gracie buncha punks!

    • Anthony

“Long Dong Silver” –OMG-I cant even get the word d#@k in one of my post with out getting flagged, censered, and thrown out and your rollin with “Long Dong Silver”–I love it–your the man!!!!!

    • RonnieV

Long Dong – so much hatred towards Cesar Gracie’s team is just another form of penis envy. That is too bad you can’t respect good MMA!

    • grimsgrind

LoLuMaD?! gracie fighters would kill you son

  • pauly12

How about a little variety on the Rousey pics? I’m getting tired of those weigh-in photos.

  • LongDongSilver

Why thank your Sir, i’m surprised I didn’t get questioned yet lol. @Pauly can’t agree more

Ronda Rousey will need to shore up her boxing skills if she is going to fight Sarah Kaufman next. The Diaz brothers can definitely help her in that area. They possess rare skills, they don’t have effective power but they are consistent and accurate when it comes to hitting their opponents.

Check out this article about Rousey http://www.ufcfightblogger.com/news/ronda-rousey-train-diaz-brothers-upcoming-fight/

When I saw my first interview with her…I thought of Nick Diaz’s attitude. Love him or hate him (them)…it makes perfect sense to me.

  • mmachoman

    Following the Diaz method, eh?

Then perhaps the next time there’s a press conference, Rousey won’t show up. A short while later, she’ll post a video on Youtube with her complaining about the whole thing while driving. When she does finally make it to a press conference, she will complain about how nobody helps her and how the UFC doesn’t pay enough.

    • bajafox

Wow, how stupid is this comment?

Only one Diaz did that and she won’t be fighting in the UFC any time soon unless they add a womens division

      • Triggerman99

Yeah, one person, one time = a “method” to some small-minded haters, apparently.

        • mmachoman

The method is not in the one-time antic. The method is the constant complaining & endless whining from the Diaz brothers, and as for Rousey, you don’t have to be in the UFC to comment on the UFC on behalf of someone.

Even I used to be a Diaz fan until they started whining about every little thing. Even Gracie was embarassed when Diaz ducked the press conference. Those two need to grow up mentally and stop repeatedly bringing shame onto the whole camp.

          • Triggerman99

I don’t know where you’re getting the “constant” and “endless”. It was one press-conference where Nick kind of blew up, and that was probably at the encouragement of Dana; trying to get him to be more interactive with the media (which Dana has openly admitted to doing with Diaz).

I can’t really think of anything that Nate has said that could be taken as whining.

  • macgrubber

out of all the camps out there she chooses to go to this one. what a joke.

    • RonnieV

She’s smart! Cesar Gracie’s camp is one of teh most respected in the sport.

      • Triggerman99

Yeah, I love it when people let their Diaz hatred get in the way of logical thought. Nick was about to get a title shot, Nate is probably one win away, Melendez is a multi time champion, and Shields was a champ in two different divisions and fought for the UFC title. but yeah, you’re right macgrubber, the Cesar Gracie camp is a joke. LOL

        • macgrubber

Nick didnt get a title shot and lost to condit. Nate has been getting whooped. Melendez has never fought in the UFC. And shields got whooped. Next?

        • macgrubber

Actually i take that back. Training with them might actually be good so she can learn what not to do. Like how not to get blasted by a knee like shields did. Or how you should learn to cut the ring off instead of chasing someone for 5 rds like nick did. Or maybe how to stay in a lower organization and fight japanese fighters since they arent at the same lvl as US fighters like melendez does.

      • macgrubber

        nice troll bro

  • Jeff

This choice seems kinda ironic. After listening to her and watching her in interviews she sometimes comes off or talks like a stoner. People smokin weed doesnt bother me but when they over do the stoner act its kinda lame. Maybe its just her. dont know whether she tokes or not. Other than that shes bad ass. Hope she stays on top for a long time. Way hotter than Tate, she has that witchy look to her face. Hot but just kinda weird lookin.

  • LongDongSilver

Ronnie yes they are a good camp, there are lots of them but these guys are a buncha classless goons, I mean maybe mma should allow you to hock a loogie in peoples face too

    • grimsgrind

Chael sonnen is alot worse for the sport than the Diaz’s are…They are practictioners of THE founding style of MMA, Gracie Jiu Jitsu, they have more respect than most MMA fighters between fighter to fighter. Do your homework you clown of a dong

  • alhmiel

Rousey is the future of the woman’s MMA. Sara Kaufman will destroy the sport for all woman is dull plain sara ever wins again. Rousey is smart training with Nick Diaz. good luck.keep kaufman out the limelight too plain and off TV.

    • grimsgrind

hahaha, Ronda would kill Kauffman with 1 hand tied behind her back… Cmon now, the only “female” that has a chance is Cyborg, and personally I think with Cyborg dry off TRT/Anabolics, Rousey has it 4 out of 5 times.

  • grimsgrind

I heard Ronda broke up with Henry…Seriously, maybe she will get with Nick, how insane would that be? Nick Diaz with a girlfriend, THE best female Judoka / FMMA on the planet? Interesting couple, putting it mildly. I ******* love Ronda, I love the Diaz’ and I love Boxing and BJJ. I hope Ronda remains champion for a long time and I hope her and Nick get together. I also hope I get to train with them all 1 day. My life will then be complete. WAR DIAZ, WAR RONDA! PRO-420!
