Reigning RUFF lightweight champion Rodrigo Caporal has fought only once in the last two years, but the BJJ black belt has a big match-up booked for Nov. 27. He will be going up against fellow Brazilian Francisco Mario Marinho at IMPI 3 in Hong Kong.
IMPI was founded by Vuyisile Colossa last year and this will be by far the biggest fight the promotion has ever booked. Caporal (12-4) has been based in Hong Kong for the better part of five years and has fought eight times in China.
His opponent might not be such a familiar face to Asian fans, but Marinho (26-4) is much more experienced and comes into this contest on the back of a seven-fight winning streak that dates all the way back to 2011.
They will not be the only Brazilians on the IMPI 3 card because Sandro Da Silva (4-5) is facing Hong Kong’s own Donald Tong (1-4) in a featherweight fight. Another local favorite on the card is Kenny Yeung (3-4), who will be taking on American Luke Adams (8-8), also in the 145-pound division.
The final fight to have been released at the time of writing features another Brazilian as Rio De Janeiro native Ederson Cristian Macedo (6-3) takes on India’s Michael Pereira (1-2). The event will be the second to be held at the Southorn Stadium with IMPI 2 taking place at Queen Elizabeth Stadium.
