Robert Drysdale Octagon Debut Nixed, Out of UFC 163 Due to Staph Infection

Posted on by MMAWeekly.com Staff

Robert DrysdaleRobert Drysdale will have to withdraw from his UFC 163 bout with Ednaldo Oliveira due to a staph infection, according to a report from the Las Vegas Review-Journal.

Drysdale is one of the most decorated grapplers in the world. He is a World Jiu-Jitsu Championship gold medalist, as well as a winner of the Abu Dhabi Submission Wrestling World Championship absolute division.

He has quietly amassed a 6-0 record in professional mixed martial arts competition, since beginning his transition to the sport in 2010.

Holding true to his background in grappling – and similar to UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey – Drysdale has submitted all six of his opponents and all in the first round. In fact, he has never gone longer than 2:54 in an MMA bout.

Drysdale will, however, have to wait to make his UFC debut due to the staph infection.

There has been no word from UFC officials yet on whether or not they have found a replacement to step in and face Oliveira or if they will scrap the bout altogether.

UFC featherweight champion Jose Aldo defends his belt against “the Korean Zombie,” Chan Sung Jung on Aug. 3 at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro.

Dammmm….I was really looking forward to his debut in the UFC. FB prelims are not worth watching now.

Totaly agreed. On the other hand, Ednaldo got his ass saved from some big trouble.
First fight against BJJ expert Gabriel Napao.
Then…Second UFC fight against Drysdale? That’s some tough luck

Wouldn’t mind seeing Drysdale vs. Roger Gracie in MMA now.
