Robbie Lawler - StrikeforcePromotion officials are currently hard at work trying to assemble the UFC 157 fight card, and it looks like they’re trying to fill it up before everyone checks out for a little holiday cheer.

The UFC announced a couple of UFC 157 bouts on Wednesday, and confirmed reports of an as yet unofficial match-up between Josh Koscheck and former Strikeforce fighter Robbie Lawler.

The Koscheck vs. Lawler bout was first reported by the Orange County Register.

The two will meet in a welterweight match-up on Feb. 23 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif.

Koscheck (17-6) enters the bout coming off of a split decision loss to Johny Hendricks at UFC on Fox 3 back in May. He had been slated to face Jake Ellenberger in September, but had to pull out of the fight due to a back injury.

Lawler (19-9) has had a much rougher go of it over the past few years. His tenure in Strikeforce never saw him gain any traction, amassing a 3-5 record while fighting for the promotion.

He’ll be looking to ignite a new spark in his career at UFC 157. The fight marks Lawler’s drop to welterweight and his return to the Octagon.

Lawler rose to prominence during his first tenure in the UFC, fighting there from 2002 to 2004, primarily as a welterweight.

Ronda Rousey puts her newly minted UFC women’s bantamweight championship belt on the line against Liz Carmouche in the UFC 157 main event.

meh, not really interested in a guy that washed out of the ufc and didn’t really do anything while he was away

the fight is pretty easy to predict too. they’ll stay standing until koscheck gets tagged a few times then he’ll take lawler down and go for the decision win. rinse and repeat.

  • Troy

Getting Kos back on track with a W over someone with somewhat of a name.

    • Don’t care about either of these guys, thought we had moved on, then you dig up Lawler, Bj Penn…
Give Shamrock and Severn a call while your at it.

Kos is not going anywhere in the division, he will linger at the top 5 but never hold a title, give it up and **** *** back to fraggle rock!

koschecks standing is getting better and better and he has a dangerous right. can see kos is going to ko or tko lawler or gnp submit. anyway, easy fight for kos, cant see ufc is interested in this fight. lawler is coming from a sf 3-1 loss. my oppinion, bad match up

  • AJ

This is one of the dumbest match ups in UFC history. I really hope Lawler can some how shut us up and get a flash KO.

  • This guy has put his time in the sport. Great to see him back in the UFC. Yea he’s had some losses but w/e. Tough guy, always a dangerous fight.

  • Brandon Donovan

Dana must have found a way to write Lawlers purse off as a charitable donation. Merry Christmas Rob!

UFC matchmaking @ its best. Kos is smart enough not to trade shots with him so he’s gonna use the Rumble/Daley strategy. If the UFC ever made any sense, they’d match Lawler with another new WW in Cote.

    • adam1848

I agree completely. Cote would have been a perfect match up.

  • The Best Eva

YES! Robbies back so many ko’s comin.

    • Troy

lol…doubtful. More like Kos beats him and gets his walking papers

    • TriangleChoker

I wish. He needs to be fighting other guys at WW in the UFC. Kos is way to much for him to handle at this point.

  • Anthony Lopez

This is giving Robbie a huge opportunity. Here’s hoping he capitalizes on it

well shows koscheck still has ways to go for another shot if his gonna be fighting newcomers or new returners that are obviously not on his level, but again KOS was looking for a fight where he had a clear advantage in certain areas

  • Joesully15

I can understand where all the hate is coming from regarding Lawler but he has always been one of my favorite fighters and I am glad to see him back. He has had a rough go as of late but it seems like everyone on here is forgetting that he won the ICON Middleweight belt and the EliteXC Middleweight belt. Not saying he has been facing the best competition but he is always a game fighter and hits hard. Either way, happy Lawler gets another crack in the UFC.

  • TriangleChoker

Always enjoy watching Ruthless Robbie Lawlor but man oh man thats a tough match up,. Welcome back Robbie, Geezus.

Why not Cote or Brenemenenmen? Why welcome him back with a top 2-3 contender?

What a lose-lose for Kos. Hey a rematch with Diaz and Lawlor would have been awesome. Lawler is about Diaz’s level….

    • Drock420

Robbie Lawler is not on Nick Diaz’s level. Who was the ONLY person to knock out Robbie Lawler? Right! It was none other than Nick Diaz.

  • Lawler is an exiting fighter to watch.
