But against Matt Brown, the main event for the UFC’s fights on FOX did, and now Robbie Lawler has himself a rematch with Johny Hendricks.

The plan, Lawler said, was to get it over quickly. The problem, however, was that Brown was way too tough to let that happen so easily.

“I just wanted to go out there and look to stop him,” Lawler said at the post-fight press conference. “There was two winners in that cage tonight, and he’s very impressive. He put on a good performance tonight.

“He’s a hell of an opponent. He took a lot of shots, and I landed some big shots and he kept coming. Everything they said about that guy was true, and he’s very tough.”

Even Dana White thought the UFC on FOX 12 headliner would finish within the distance. The UFC president’s reaction to the Fight of the Night winner was one where he had nothing to complain about.

In fact, White was thankful for Lawler’s efforts, not only for Saturday, but for the past quarter of the year.

“I think he’s had three fights in four months. Thank you, by the way.” White told Lawler. “He’s been unbelievable and stepping up and taking big fights non-stop for us, and fighting dangerous guys. He goes in there and that thing goes five rounds. And Brown, hurt hand or not, went for it in that fifth round. Unbelievable fight, unbelievable performance.”

With the tough task of Brown out of the way, Lawler now has his eyes set on a rematch with Hendricks. The first fight between the two was a back-and-forth slugfest with Hendricks walking away with a unanimous decision.

Lawler said he’s gotten better since his the first time the two met in the Octagon, and he hopes to prove he can do more.

“Ruthless” will look to do more to earn more.

“I’m going to do a lot different,” Lawler said of the impending rematch for the title. “I’m going to keep building on everything that I’ve been doing this year, but I’m going to do more. That’s what that fight came down to — I need to do more. More punches, more kicks, more takedown defense. I just need to take the fight to him.

“I want to get right back in the gym and start working out and start working to get better and start training to be champion.”

Nick Diaz easily beats lawler again. Nick already KO’d lawler.

Diaz has nothing to do with this piece, but okay. Thanks for your logical opinion.
