Ricardo Almeida is expected to make his return to mixed martial arts competition in early 2008 after signing a six-fight contract with the Ultimate Fighting Championship according to a report by Gracie Magazine.

He was originally scheduled to return on the same Cage Fury Fighting Championships event as Kevin “Kimbo Slice” Fergesun and David “Tank” Abbot. Felix Martinez, the promotion’s president, subsequently cancelled the event, citing “the loss of a major investor.”

Almeida last competed at Pride Fighting Championships’ Bushido 3 in May 2004, where he defeated highly regarded Japanese fighter Ryo Chonan.

Upon his return, he will be looking to keep intact a six-fight winning streak.
