Renan Barao at UFC 138It’s no secret that interim UFC bantamweight champion Renan Barão is going to make the first defense of his belt against Michael McDonald, but now the two know when and where… Feb. 16 in London.

UFC president Dana White confirmed the title defense on Tuesday night’s edition of UFC Tonight on Fuel TV.

UFC brass finally pulled the trigger on the fight after it was revealed that UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz had to have a second ACL surgery when his body rejected the cadaver tissue used in his first surgery. The second operation will keep him sidelined for the better part of 2013.

UFC on Fuel TV 7 marks the promotion’s return to London for the first time since late 2010 when Michael Bisping and Yoshihiro Akiyama headlined UFC 120 at the O2 Arena.

Barão vs. McDonald will headline at Wembley Arena. No, not the mammoth Wembley Stadium next door. Wembley Arena is an indoor facility that has a capacity of roughly 12,500.

UFC officials on Thursday revealed the championship main event alongside several other bouts for the London fight card; not surprisingly, it is weighted heavily towards several top British fighters.

Since when were title fights put on fuel…

I understand the business and why England doesn’t get the big names, but that doesn’t make it any less disappointing. Looks like I’ll have to travel to the States or Brazil if I’m ever going to see a stacked UFC card.

Awesome fight for a Fuel tv card!

Once again we get a shitty card in England. I’m very surprised they gave us a title fight (albeit the interim title) but the rest is pretty lame. It’s just a matter of time before they add Kongo or Diabate to the card because France is quite near England. We can go and watch BAMMA if we want to watch domestic talent, give us a chance to see some international talent for once.

  • El Gvapo

And sure enough they add Diabate.
