Randy Couture Not Coming Back to Fighting ‘Unless Steven Seagal Wants to Sign Up’

Randy Couture at UFC 52Former UFC champion Randy Couture is living the good life these days.

He’s currently promoting the release of The Expendables 2, which hits theaters this Friday, and also recently had a starring role in a straight-to-video release action film calld Hijacked.

Long gone are Couture’s days in the Octagon, and he has no regrets walking away when he did, and according to the former two-weight class champion he conquered every goal he set for himself when he started fighting.

“No, I think everything I set out to do, I managed to pull off, and it has been an amazing journey for 15 years,” Couture said when speaking to G4TV’s Attack of the Show on Wednesday.

Since leaving the UFC, Couture has worked primarily on his acting career, most recently his role in the action series The Expendables. In the sequel set for release this week, Couture stars alongside several action stars including Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jason Statham and Jean-Claude Van Damme.

Now the focus of most of Couture’s interviews these days revolve around what he’s up to these days in terms of his acting career, but the MMA legend doesn’t escape a few questions about his fighting past.

One of the most common questions has to be ‘is there any fight that would draw you back into the Octagon?’.

Well, leave it to Randy Couture to spice things up and throw out another action star’s name, who isn’t in The Expendables, but happens to be swirling around his old stomping ground in the UFC.

“Not unless (Steven) Seagal wants to sign up,” Couture answered with a smile and a laugh.

Seagal has become quite infamous in the MMA world over the last few years, appearing in the corner and training camps for several high profile fighters, most notably UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva.

While it’s highly unlikely Couture vs. Seagal will be happening any time soon in the UFC, it appears the real fighting legend is taking notice of the movie star stepping on his turf.

I hope someone decapitates Seagal!! I was so glad when Jon Jones wouldn’t let him near him before his fight. He’s like a different kind of creepy Van Damme.

    • RubeKegal

      +1

    • lfighterc

true but what weight class would Seagal fight in, every time i see him his circumference gains 3 more inches. that being said i would pick Seagal to win by TKO using 37 eye gouges and 11904658 nut shots (you know what i mean if you’ve seen his movies)

      • hox7912

This made me laugh so hard this morning! Dude Steven could slap box the crap out of people! But remember he’s just a chef and nobody is above the law

        • lfighterc

          haha yea

        • MrAdidas

Not just a chef, but a chef for the marines.

what happened? Seagal wanted to coach Jones or just hang out?

    • bradwesley

Seagal came up to Jones and said he could teach him some things and Jones shrugged it off.

He then said on twitter or in an interview that he wasn’t sure who Seagal was when he came up to him and that if he is not Jet Li then he won’t be asking for help.

May be missing some points but Jones pretty much called him an old has been who apparently is the daddy of Silva and Machida.

      • smill0313

Jones was just being an ass. Like him or not, there is NO way Jones hasnt heard of Steven Seagal.

        • RubeKegal

smill, the more I read your posts, the more I think you are mentally challenged.

        • MrAdidas

I thought Seagul asked if he could hang out with him in the back/changing room to talk, before and/or after the fight. Though, I’m not 100% certain.

      • zap

        Thanks man

I have utmost respect for Seagal, but he is now old and overweight/out of shape. He would get destroyed quickly in an MMA match against Couture.

The UFC does not allow small joint manipulation, throat strikes, eye strikes, spine strikes, or head butts, all techniques that are an integral part of Seagals’ hybrid karate/aikido style. Couple Seagals’ age and shape, with restrictions to his technique, and he would be in big trouble in an MMA fight.

    • RubeKegal

Agreed not to mention that MMA isn’t a bunch of Aikido guys Seagal has personally paid to take flops. Judo Gene Lebell choked him out twice when they got into it…2nd time, Seagal crapped his pants….i’m not making that up, look it up.

      • smill0313

Every article that mentions Seagal pooping himself alos says that Judo Gene has been known to lie several times in the past so take it with a grain of salt.

        • Lesnardo

But Seagal got punked by JCVD. JC was gonna kick his ass at Stallone’s house.

          • MrAdidas

Really? I didn’t think the cast from the Expendables liked Seagal, since he’s basically the ONLY “action star from the 90’s” not in the movie. I heard from the “inter-web” that Seagal wanted to be part of the movie but Stallone said … “sanx but no sanx.”

haha. yall should look up facts or more imp actually watch and review someones bio. segal lived in middle east took.an asian bride whos father was a huge kungfu teacher. learned and trained there and became blackbelt and.teacher.himself! in a cage where there r rules and limits maybe a young him losses lol but a REAL fight where no one can put there hands down on a mat to not get kicked or.kneed or can get kicked when they r knocked down etc. segal would destroy them. lol i love mma more than any other sport but im not biast to the things i love. i know one fact is what jds said to frank, and thats all fights start on the feet! u have to td someone to get it on the floor or knock them down there lol. id rather have great striking and great td defense than be a great wrestler with lousy standup! anderson striker (yes he knows more but his striking is his bread n butter), jds lol nouvh said great boxer, prob the only real mma fivhter with legit boxing skills which.is y he hits and dont get hit. machida striker, frankie, dom cruz, jon jones, lol all these guys r known for they striking. all they need is td defense and they dominate. fight starts on feet lol just ask sonnen, mir, brock, bader, mia, etc. i can go on, all these.vuys were great grapplers that lose to strikers.with td.defense. point is segal in a fight would destroy these.guys lol his standup as real as it gets, mma stand is nothing compared karates kung fu BOXING its thers bread n butter. but remember segal.is equiped judo grappling so he.knows how to grapple and sever limbs. ps RANDY IS AWSOME!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • MrAdidas

      what?!?

  • mrsister

The most unusual usage of lol that I’ve ever seen. I think you are using it instead of commas. Reminds me of a childhood acquaintance who would say ‘no offense’ before he started every sentence. It was his go to sentence opener that left everyone scratching their heads who wasn’t aware of his pattern. I hope, for his sake, he found out what it meant and stopped saying it. It wasn’t too bad when we were 7.

sorry my lol offended u. i uae them when im making a point or repeating what somebody else said thats retarded and makes me laugh. i will try to hold back some, but these ppl make me laugh when they talk with no real knowledge of ppl. anyways, good day sir.

  • smill0313

Seagal wins by front snap kick in the 1st.

  • http://www.combatsciencemma.com CombatScienceMMA

Coutures had his time. Built an excellent career for himself outside of the cage, doing movies, commentating and being a great rep for the sport and ufc. I’m pretty sure the Segal line was just a joke so who cares.

Very good debate. Love Randy. Awesome guy, awesome MMA fighter. Seagal is the real deal as a martial artist. With no rules, in the street, a lifetime martial artist, trained in lethality, wins. But I bet Randy would give him one hell of a time doin it. Who knows. We will never see this fight, but its fun to imagine.

    • Lesnardo

Umm..no…even in our imagination, it would be inhumane to let Seagal fight Randy.

“Real deal as a martial artist” “in the street”

You are psychotic. Seagal is just some poser white boy C-level movie star.

      • RubeKegal

That’s insulting!!!! How dare you call him C-Level…D+ at best!!!

  • mod777

If ever they fight in the UFC. The UFC image will be tainted forever for putting up a circus act. They already did that with James Toney.

These could be the next TUF coaches Seinsei Seagal vs Couture….. Would not be worse then the recent selections.
