Takanori Gomi continued to make his case as the top ranked lightweight fighter in the world. After two rounds, Gomi walked away with a unanimous decision after manhandling Jean Silva for most of the fight. It appeared that he had the armbar locked in and that Silva may have been tapping just as the bell rang to end the second round.

In one of the most talked about bouts prior to Bushido, Phil Baroni continued his quest to establish himself as one of the top middleweights in the world. If his results since making the jump to Pride are any indicator, Baroni is back. After dismantling Ikuhisa Minowa in his Bushido debut, Baroni continued his assault on Japan by knocking out Ryo Chonan in just 1 minute and 40 seconds of the first round.

Plenty other fighters also continued to establish themselves with impressive performances at Bushido 8. Tatsuya Kawajiri decisioned Luiz “Buscape” Firmino as the bell rang with Kawajiri stomping Buscape’s head. Joachim Hansen continued to hammer his opposition as he knocked out Masakazu Imanari with a knee to the head. In another highly anticipated bout, Denis Kang dominated Andrei Semenov en route to a unanimous decision. And on extremely short notice, Josh Thomson flew out to Japan and made short work of Daisuke Sugie by kneebarring him in just two and one-half minutes.
