While April Fools Day was wrapping up late Saturday night in the United States, Marcus Aurelio got the last laugh shocking the world and taking out the best Lightweight in the world in Takanori Gomi.

Aurelio, who was the biggest underdog on the card according to MMA oddsmaker Joey Oddessa, used an arm triangle choke to take out Gomi at 4:31 of Round 1. How big of an upset was it? Aurelio was at +500 on BetEagle.com, while Gomi was -800 going into the fight.

“I was really prepared for Gomi. The fight went according to my gameplan. Even though Gomi is ranked #1, I totally knew that on the ground that I had the advantage.” Aurelio told MMAWeekly.com after the fight

Phil Baroni put on just as impressive performance this weekend from Tokyo Japan. Baroni needed only :45 seconds to knockout Yuki Kondo. Baroni came out firing bombs as he obliterated Kondo with vicious combinations in winning in under a minute.

Baroni told MMAWeekly.com “I want my respect. Nobody is giving me respect so I’m here to take it. I train very, very hard and give everything I got. I’m a challenger, I’m a threat, I will be the champion.”

Now it will be very interesting to see what Pride does with Baroni. Phil improves to 3-1 in Pride. Will DSE put him against Dan Henderson or will they give Phil his other wish of facing Wanderlei Silva. We shall see.

Speaking of Dan Henderson, Hendo beat a very game Kazuo Misaki by Unanimous decision. Yves Edwards also won by unanimous decision over Ikemoto. Jens Pulver won by TKO over Arai Kenji in a spectacular battle as the two went toe to toe in a very exciting fight.

In the battle of bitter Brazilian rivals, Paulo Filho continues to prove to everyone he is one of the best at 185 as he took out Murilo Ninja Rua for the unanimous decision. Dennis Kang overwhelmed Mark Weir as Weir couldn’t get out of the first round as Kang won by submission. Joachim Hansen put himself back into title contention with a win over Luiz Azeredo. Akihiro Gono took out Korean fighter Kim Dae Won by submission in Round 1.

Ikhusa Minowa used a beautiful spinning roll to take down the Giant Silva, then pounded the big man into verbal submission for a victory in Round 1. While Ishida Mitsuhiro locked on a submission on Paul Rodriquez for the impressive win.
