A pivotal lightweight bout has been added to the UFC 165: Jones vs. Gustafsson fight card slated for Sept. 21 in Toronto.
Light heavyweight champion Jon Jones puts his belt on the line against Alexander Gustafsson in the UFC 165 main event at the Air Canada Centre.
Nurmagomedov (20-0) has been steadily proving himself in the Octagon, winning four consecutive fights over Kamal Shalorus, Gleison Tibau, Thiago Tavares, and most recently, Abel Trujillo.
Healy (29-16, 1 NC) scored the biggest victory of his career at UFC 159: Jones vs. Sonnen, submitting perennial UFC lightweight contender Jim Miller. The victory was overturned, however, when Healy failed his post-fight drug test. His test results were positive for marijuana.
Not only did he lose the fight, Healy also lost $130,000 in bonuses for Fight of the Night and Submission of the Night.
“I would like to start off by apologizing to the UFC, Jim Miller, the MMA community, it’s fans, my family, teammates and coaches for my positive testing for marijuana after my UFC 159 fight with Jim Miller,” Healy said in a statement after his drug test result became public.
This is a tough fight, but also an important one, for both fighters. Each is looking to establish himself as a contender in the division.
