Following the first loss of his career, Phil Davis returns to action at UFC on Fox 4 in August. He’ll welcome former heavyweight Chad Griggs to the light heavyweight division, according to UFC officials, who said that verbal agreements are in place for the fight.
Davis (9-1) suffered the first setback of his mixed martial arts career at UFC on Fox 2 in January, losing a unanimous decision to former UFC light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans.
Davis had been streaking towards a title shot, but couldn’t overcome the experience of Evans, who earned a shot a return shot at the title with the win.
Griggs (11-2) made his Octagon debut at UFC 145 in Atlanta, submitting to Travis Browne in the opening round of their fight. It was a rude enough welcome for Griggs to decide to move down to the 205-pound class and test his mettle there.
He’ll get a tough test right out of the gate, however, in a rebounding Phil Davis.
Brian Stann and Hector Lombard are expected to headline UFC on Fox 4 on Aug. 4 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
