Australian fighter Anthony Perosh has taken an opportunity and run with it, and he’ll continue sprinting at UFC on FX 2 on March 3 in his hometown of Sydney.
UFC officials on Wednesday confirmed a Wide World of Sports report noting that Perosh would return to the Octagon at UFC on FX 2 to face promotional newcomer Nick Penner.
Perosh (12-6), at 39 years of age, was asked to step into the UFC on short notice to fight Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic at UFC 110 when Ben Rothwell fell ill. Perosh lost the fight with Cro Cop, but has returned twice, defeating both Tom Blackledge and Cyrille Diabaté.
He’ll get the opportunity to keep his dream streak alive against Penner (11-1), but may not be an easy task. Penner is on an eight-fight winning streak, rarely going to a decision in his fights.
One factor, aside from the experience and wisdom that comes with age, is the fact that this will be Penner’s first fight outside of his home country of Canada, while Perosh is on his home turf.
A welterweight showdown between Thiago Alves and Martin Kampmann is expected to headline the UFC on FX 2 fight card at Allphones Arena in Sydney.
