The two most recognizable brands in Asian MMA teamed up for a press conference recently at the grand opening of the brand new Evolve MMA academy on Singapore’s upscale Orchard Road.

Evolve MMA CEO Chatri Sityodtong and ONE FC CEO Victor Cui both announced major plans for the expansion of their respective businesses with the former stating he wanted to eventually open 100 academies across Asia and the latter announcing that there would be 24 events held in 2015.

The Orchard Road location is Evolve MMA’s third in Singapore and is in the heart of the country’s most prestigious shopping district. There is already an online university and Chatri announced that two new academies are set to open their doors in 2015.

During the press conference Chatri also mentioned that the Singapore government was supporting MMA with ONE FC one of two sporting properties, the other being Formula One, currently receiving a financial package from the Economic Development Board.

He also noted that Evolve MMA was currently looking to hire an additional 50 staff and stated, “With the addition of Evolve Orchard Central, our academies’ combined schedules will now have over 500 classes per week, easily the most in Asia, led by our World Champion instructors. No matter what your scheduling constraints are or what your fitness level is, we have classes to suit men, women and children – from beginners to pros. There is no excuse for not training.”

There were also some major announcements from ONE FC whose vice president, Rich Franklin, attended the event alongside middleweight contender Roger Gracie, who is currently preparing to make his promotional debut in Manila next month.

Victor Cui confirmed that 2015 would start with events at the Guangzhou Gymnasium on Feb. 6, the Istora Senayan in Jakarta on Feb. 14, and Stadium Putra in Kuala Lumpur in March, with ONE FC aiming to do 24 shows over the course of the calendar year.

ONE FC’s first foray into mainland China is scheduled for next month in Beijing and Cui stated, “2015 is set to be the biggest year in the history of mixed martial arts in China. We will kick off the year with a bang in Guangzhou with the first of ten events set for China. Guangzhou is one of the largest cities in the world and fans in the city can expect to be captivated by a night of world-class mixed martial arts action! Kuala Lumpur and Jakarta were also the hosts of successful events this year and we will return to those cities to set a new paradigm in sports entertainment!”

If 24 events are slated for 2015, then plenty of opportunities for fighters to get on board and get some actions. Well known fighters can fight for 3 or more times a year injury free. With Evolve MMA expanding and if in other countries then it can mean new fighters will have a chance to compete. Hopefully, it will be in their neighbouring countries such as Thailand, Malaysia, Philippines and Indonesia with Vietnam at some point. Great to know that the doors are opening up for future prospects. Every new fighter needs a chance, firstly to train and then compete.
