Olympic Silver Medalist Sara McMann Signs with Strikeforce; Expected to Debut on Nov. 3

Posted on by Damon Martin

Olympic silver medalist turned undefeated mixed martial artist Sara McMann has signed with Strikeforce and is expected to debut on the upcoming Nov. 3 fight card in Oklahoma.

Invicta FC officials announced the signing on Tuesday. Additional sources close to the fighter confirmed the signing to MMAWeekly.com as well, along with her expected debut date.

“I am saddened not to be fighting in the first Invicta FC bantamweight title fight,” said McMann via press release. “I am not sure how long my MMA career will last and, with the time I have left in the sport, I need to take every opportunity that comes my way to fight the best competition out there, so this move is part of a bigger picture for me.

“Since Invicta FC and Strikeforce work closely together,” continued McMann, “I hope I will have another opportunity to fight for Invicta FC. Shannon Knapp and Janet Martin (Invicta FC matchmaker) have treated the other fighters and me better than any other promotion I have ever worked with and I am grateful to them for helping me with this opportunity in Strikeforce.”

A 2004 Olympic silver medalist in wrestling, Sara McMann brings world class grappling skills to Strikeforce and a perfect 6-0 record, as well.

McMann has competed for both ProElite and Invicta FC recently with her last win coming over veteran fighter Shayna Baszler at Invicta FC 2 in July.

Now McMann will debut in Strikeforce at 135 pounds with her first fight expected to take place at the Nov. 3 card headlined by Daniel Cormier vs. Frank Mir in the main event.

MMAWeekly.com will have more information on McMann’s debut and opponent when it becomes available.

Awesome! She’ll represent Upstate SC well, and women’s MMA. She’ll derail the Rousey hype train too.

With all due respect, you’re on crack. There is no way Ronda Rousey is losing to anyone in her own weight class. The only one that would even have a chance is Cyborg, but she says that she can’t safely cut to 135. so I guess for now we’ll just have to watch her whoop ass in 1 round fights.

I agree, I can’t see anyone derailing Rousey right now. Cyborg has the stand up to beat her but Rousey could use Cyborgs strength against her. I just think Rousey is more well rounded than McMann. Plus working with top names like the Diaz brothers, Cruz, and Faber. She is only gonna get more scary. Plus she is hot. O dream about a three-way with her and Carano. Mmmmmm

I’d love to see a world class wrestler fight a world class judoka. Make it happen!
