According to GracieFighter.com, Cesar Gracie-trained fighter Nick Diaz has agreed to fight Josh Neer this Saturday at UFC 62. Even though he accepted the fight on just 5 days notice, Diaz should be ready to go, as he had already been training for a fight on August 12th that fell through.
“I was up in Lake Hogan getting ready to swim a race when my manager called me and asked if I wanted to fight this weekend,” Diaz stated on his trainer’s web site. “I’m down for a fight, so I said sure, why not?. I’m pissed my last fight got cancelled and glad I’ll be fighting some UFC guy.”
As first reported on Sherdog.com, Thiago Alves is apparently out due to an illness that required a trip to the hospital.
Coming off of three straight losses in the UFC, this is an unexpected, if not welcome, opportunity for Diaz to return to contention in the UFC welterweight division.
