Nick Diaz UFC 129When the time came for Nick Diaz’s scheduled UFC 158 open workout session for media and fans in Montreal on Wednesday, the Octagon remained empty.  The challenger to the welterweight title did not show up.

Diaz’s camp told that they were in contact with UFC officials over not appearing.

Diaz’s manager, Cesar Gracie, tweeted, “We asked @danawhite (Dana White) if we could reschedule open workout.  @nickdiaz209 (Nick Diaz) wants to be at his best for this fight.”

This isn’t the first time Diaz has failed to show up for media obligations.  Leading up to his first scheduled fight with champion Georges St-Pierre at UFC 137, Diaz missed two press conferences and several flights, costing the UFC a reported $15,000. He was subsequently removed from the fight.

White nearly pulled Diaz from the UFC 158: St-Pierre vs. Diaz bout due to Diaz no-showing a taping of the Countdown to UFC 158.

A conversation between White and Diaz’s lawyer straightened out the situation and Diaz fulfilled his Countdown to UFC 158 obligations.

During an appearance on Jim Rome’s radio show Wednesday, White commented,  “I got to tell you this, though, I leave tonight for Montreal. The press conference is tomorrow, I’m excited for the press conference and I’m definitely excited for the weigh-ins cause, you never know what you’re going to get. Well, let me tell you what, if he does not show up tomorrow for the press conference, it is not going to be good. I don’t know what I’ll say or what I’m going to do, but I’ll tell you what — it will not be good.”

“If he wins the title he’s going to have to come to Vegas and we’re going to have to sit down and we did this already when we signed his new deal, but I’m going to have to tell him, ‘If you miss anything, I will strip you of this title,’” added the UFC president. “I don’t know what else to do. I really don’t know what else to do.”

The UFC 158: St-Pierre vs. Diaz pre-fight press conference streams live, Thursday at 1 p.m. ET.

I’m a huge fan of Diaz but this is very disappointing, especially this close to the fight.

I hope he fulfills his obligations before Saturday, I’d still pay to see a last minute bout between Hendricks and GSP but that’s not the fight I want to pay for

    • RonnieV

I hear ya! The hardest part about being a Diaz fan is you never know what to expect. Win or lose, I just hope to see him back in the octagon within 5 months.

  • aguila

come bro nick i want to watch u fight gsp don’t mess this s*** up again

  • adice89

Lmao here we go again. He can be at his best all he wants. If bj penn couldnt submit gsp then no way in hell nick diaz can… gsp is gonna smash him round after round. Ground and pound over and over.

  • adice89

And before you guys say anything. Bj penn has the best guard of all time.

    • Advance*

Yeah but who has BJ submitted off his back? He was too small to deal with GSP on the ground and not to mention his cardio goes way downhill after the first round. Diaz is longer and has a much bigger gas tank. Not saying I think he can submit GSP, but I’d say he has a better chance than BJ

      • adice89

true. But as far as bjj goes in mma, nick diaz skills off his back are about the same as when he fought diego sanchez and u remember that? He postured up and was raining bombs on diaz. Gsp is far better at doing that than diego….you see what im saying?…..

    • Anthony Lopez

BJ’s guard is nothing to write home about. Name the submissions he has off of his back in 3, 2, 1… go!

      • jmoney

You clearly have no idea what you are talking about.. Submitting someone off your back is EXTREMELY rare in MMA.. Happens all the time in BJJ comp because you don’t have to worry about being punched and elbowed in the face.. BJ’s guard is world class! just watch some of his fights and you can clearly identify that.

  • Badguy

Diaz has major issues and should have never been given this gift title shot, he has never accomplished anything inside the UFC. He is about as professional as a 10 buck prostitute on hollywood blvd only thing is she is worth more!

    • Giving BJ Penn the beating of his life, and in many people’s opinion beating top 5 WW Carlos Condit are both accomplishments.

      • Badguy

First off bj has been washed up for some time and second condit did win you did see that right

  • What’s up with this guy

What is the deal with this guy? What is he chemicaly unbalanced or something? If I were in his shoes I would be doing everything they asked me to do. You want me to shoot countdown? I’m there. Open workout? I’m There. Press Conference? I’m there. Fight Night I’m going to die trying to win that belt. I just don’t understand.

    • DamianCross

Uh, yes? Actually yes. Diaz IS chemically unbalanced. Any psychiatrist in the world can look at his behavior and determine he needs meds. That’s why he’s constantly smoking up; he’s self medicating.

  • Lawdog1521

You’re not going to do **** Dana. Until GSP wins and Diaz’s sell-ability bubble burst, you’re going to continue to be Nick’s bitch like you have been for the last year.

    • Trevor

Interesting? Dana White is a friggin Mulit-millionaire and Diaz is on his way to Wal-mart…you are right Dana will do whatever to keep the fight going because GSP is the UFC’s biggest pay per view draw but when Diaz gets beat down he’ll be fired by Tuesday. He’s the bitch lining the pockets of the UFC and he’s too stupid to even realize his career is gonna be done soon and the easy money will be 19.95 to change oil.

      • Badguy

Well IMO I truly believe diaz is going to give one of his retirement speaches after he loses bitch a little why he lost a wrestling match evan while he is trying to stop the cuts on his face from bleeding he wanted his one big payday

      • thendarylsaid

you sir hit the nail on the head. well done 🙂

    • Mark McDowall

With the upcoming cuts being made by the UFC. I think Diaz is going to be top of the list of “made an example of”

      • Randi

Not a chance. The UFC is not about to cut the new champ!

        • Mark McDowall

If he looses I bet they will! And even if he does…Dana says he screws up once they will strip him of the belt and I think being cut will accompany that.

  • Fan

DIAZ is a punk hes scared to death n hopin dana saves him lol wat a douche!!! Thats the only reason hes actin like hes to cool n all he wants to do is fight!! Hes a joke n i hope he gets destroyed by gsp

  • Mark McDowall

Why does Ceaser Gracie always have an excuse for why Nick can’t DO HIS JOB!! I have a feeling that if Nick looses this fight in dramatic fashion he will be one of the biggest names on the up coming cut list!

  • I couldn’t imagine what it would be like for Nick if Dana just let him go. He’s a world class fighter but this is still a job that requires other aspects. I don’t know the full story though so I’m not going to bad mouth the guy either.

    • Mark McDowall

Supposedly his flight got in late and he was tired! Thats what he put on twitter this afternoon as to why he didn’t show up. He should have kept that reason to himself…thats going to do nothing but piss Dana off even more.

      • Cereal Killer

It’s easy to verify if a plane was late. I really hope he gets cut after this fight. His actions in and out of the ring are an embarrassment to MMA.

        • Mark McDowall

I think he meant his flight was scheduled to arrive late, not necessarily it arrived after it was scheduled. But I could be wrong…either way…man up and go do your job then take a nap later.

      • Well this fight is only 2 days away. Let’s hope he doesn’t pull a stunt at the weigh ins or something and punch GSP during the stare down lol.

  • papamo1983

Everyone seems so sure what the results are gonna be… I am a real fight fan and im going to pay to watch this entire card cuz its going to be epic! Stop trying to predict every fight bcuz all of us know that we dont really know whats going to transpire.. Get real if u think u can predict every fight, i am a fan of almost every fighter on this card simply bcuz i love to watch fights..

  • Cereal Killer

‘If you miss anything, I will strip you of this title,’ – HAhahahah! That’s a HUGE if.

  • CitizenDino

How does Dana White not completely destroy the value of the title by threatening to strip a person of the title? Doesn’t a sactioning body do that? You never see Bob Arum or Golden Boy strip a fighter of a title. Yet, Dana White once again treats his fighters like cattle, and the title his own toy.

  • piper

I think if he shows up for his fights nothing else should matter

  • Cromagnonman

Diaz will test positive for weed after the fight. Guaranteed.

  • Not Drinking The Cool-Aid

I’ve watched countdown show. Does anyone out there understand any that comes out Diaz’s mouth? The dude speaks like a 29th century emo teenage girl….Homie

  • George Sperry

He WANTS to be pulled from the fight. The only other reason for doing this is because he is simply a psycho. He’s not a psycho…. right Diaz fans?

  • I would be willing to bet that he is suffering from severe marijuana withdrawal syndrome and the anxiety and depression that ensues. Nick has probably been a long time user of the most potent marijuana that he could get and this sort of thing is just surfacing as a real issue on the rehabilitation front. This is a very real syndrome and unfortunately most of the people that are proponents of pot haven’t tried to quit for long enough to experience these issues. As well any underlying/preexisting mental illness is only compounded with habitual use.

    • RonnieV

      I agree

  • kbroesq

I love how Diaz complains about his success. I think one of the best quotes from the phone conference was: “maybe if I wore tight shorts and cut my hair, things would have worked out.”

No, Nick, things would work out if you showed up. He complains about money and advertisers. Guess what, Nick, you’d have big ad money if you didn’t drop the F bomb every other word, and act like a bi-polar idiot. Who wants to attach their name to you?

Even if I was a pot company I wouldn’t want to advertise with Nick Diaz. In my opinion, Nick Diaz is a perfect example of why habitual pot use is a bad thing. It’s a drug like any other. You use it to ease your anxiety, but the fact that you use it so much is what CAUSES you anxiety when you don’t have it. It’s just like any other drug.
