Gray Maynard vs. Nate DiazUFC lightweights Nate Diaz and Gray Maynard will meet for the third time at The Ultimate Fighter 18 Finale on Nov. 30 in Las Vegas.

UFC officials announced the bout on Sunday.

Diaz and Maynard first met in the semifinal round on the fifth season of The Ultimate Fighter. Diaz submitted Maynard with a guillotine choke. That bout doesn’t appear on the fighters’ official records due to it being a part of the reality series.

They met again in the main event of UFC Fight Night 20 on Jan. 11, 2010. Maynard won that night via a split decision.

Diaz (16-9) is currently on a two-fight skid, having lost back-to-back bouts to Benson Henderson and Josh Thomson, and in desperate need of a win.

Maynard (11-2-1), after twice failing to wrest the UFC lightweight belt from then-champion Frankie Edgar, is 1-1 in his last two bouts. He won a split decision over Clay Guida before losing his most recent fight to TJ Grant.

The TUF 18 Finale takes place on Nov. 30 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.

    should be good

absolutely. maynard will be hungry and diaz will give him the fight he’s looking for.

  • Maddawgmar

I don’t see how this is a rubber match. The first fight was an exhibition. Had no impact on their professional record. So I see it as 1-0 Maynard. But still should be good.

    • JET

A lot of people in the MMA community, including the fighters think that the fights in the house should count on their records. Diaz and Maynard were both professionals at that point. It wasn’t like they just did a couple rounds of training. It was a fight. This will be the third time they’ve fought. It’s a rubber match. The only reason why the term should be questioned is that Diaz really beat Maynard both times.

tuf fights are only exhibitions so that they don’t have to legally release the results as soon as it happens.

gray got subbed, i doubt he looks at it as “just an exhibition.” get out of here with that nonsense

      • Maddawgmar

It doesn’t matter what Gray looks at it as a loss or not. If he went 30-0 in his career and retired, then he would have been able to say he had never lost as a professional. An exhibition is an exhibition anyway you look at it. I understand the reason why TUF fights are the way they are, I was born and raised in Vegas and have worked in the sports books. But it doesn’t count toward his professional record, so it’s 1-0 if you like it or not.

          that’s great, but nah.

        So does your comment.

          Means more than yours 🙂

          • shakejunt

pretty sure that’s not how opinions work

    • Really? I love Gray Maynard and all but Nate Diaz has been stopped once in his entire UFC career by a tough Josh Thompson. I see this going like their first fight maybe with Nate being more aggressive; I’m sure he’s very upset with his last fight.

      • Mark McDowall

I agree. I think this may end up the same way it did during TUF. But then again Diaz has shown a weekness and if Maynard is smart he will get inside and test his chin like Thompson did.

        • fsunoles10

he’s proven over the course of his career that he has a strong chin, did you forget about all the shots he walked thru that thomson fight? i think he’ll be alright

          • Mark McDowall

Very true. But I think Maynard may hit harder than Thompson. If Diaz can use his reach and keep him away I think he could take it…but if Maynard can land its probably going to be his!

        • Let’s just all expect a good fight 😉

  • Bouncer

    diaz wins this imo

fans win 🙂 they’ll both bring it

  • bajafox

This fight is worthy of being on the main card of a PPV, great fight

  • Dan

Diaz won both before… my opinion… The split decision loss should have been his way. Diaz did more damage from his guard on his back than maynard did the entire fight..
I hope Diaz gets a decisive much needed W…
