For everyone wondering if and when they might see Nate Diaz fight again, the waiting is over.

Diaz will return to the Octagon and to the 170-pound division at UFC 189, where he will face Matt Brown. The fight was reported on Wednesday night’s edition of UFC Tonight.

Nate-Diaz-003-UFC-125-750Diaz (17-10) last saw action at UFC on FOX 13 in December, when he lost a unanimous decision to now UFC lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos. Prior to that fight, Diaz had been out of the cage for more than a year on a self-imposed exile.

He last fought at welterweight in a losing effort against current No. 1 contender Rory MacDonald at UFC 129 in 2011.

Brown (19-13) is fresh off of a loss to former welterweight titleholder Johny Hendricks at UFC 185 in March, which followed a loss to current champion Robbie Lawler.

    I’m stoked for this one.

  • taylor2008

I hope Nate gets destroyed! Cant stand that selfish loser punk. They need to get rid of him and his brother.

  • TheCerealKiller

Brown will grind him out and Nate will cry again. Having enough money for another year of weed, he will disappear for another 12 months.

    • Drock420

Nate has never tested positive for weed. Although Nick has. Your post makes no sense. Only people who gave you ^ on your post are haters like yourself. As for if he loses an doesn’t come back for a year, maybe.

      • TheCerealKiller

He openly admits to smoking weed. He just cares enough to get clean for a fight, unlike Nick.

        • Drock420

Show me the link where he admits that he smokes weed. I mean if you do it once or twice your not an addict, or even every once in a blue moon, however if you do it more often then not then yeah I would say you’d be buying weed all year like you are stating. (Replying to both of you)

      • earlsimmons

Are you saying because he hasnt tested positive he doesnt smoke it? Your more naive than obama LOL.

  • Guest

this better be a good fashioned slugfest.

  • uncle

Brown will punish Nate for going back to welterweight

  • Kris-tyahn

Diaz should get humiliated & then after the fight, Brown’s going to talk so much crap about being the best WW and how he can beat GSP, yet hasn’t beaten a legit top 10 WW.

    • Darin

Why would he talk about beating GSP, an irrelevant fighter that nobody cares about? Do you suppose he’ll call out Matt Hughes too?

  • Darin

Why does this loser keep getting main card fights against good fighters?

    • shakejunt

because casuals will tune in for it.

      • earlsimmons

Not really. A lot of people i know, myself included, stopped watching because of this.

        • shakejunt

that’s cool, i’ll enjoy the fight for you.

    • drkdisciple

He still makes for fun fights, much better then a main event like Mighty Mouse vs Horiguchi!

  • Baller31

Not a bad matchup, but they should have matched Brown against Nick, not Nate. That would have been epic

    • shakejunt

i think nick is only interested in legacy fights at this point. someone like dan henderson or bisping perhaps.

  • shakejunt

good stylistic match-up and i’m sure matt brown is psyched on the name value in diaz.

  • Kevin G Flenniken

Lets be real, no way Nate wins this one. Nate is a big LW but even at LW there are guys bigger then Nate. Matt is a big WW plus Matt will not even be bothered by Nate’s trash talk. Matt will walk Nate down and finish him 2nd round. IMHO

  • drkdisciple

I think the real money fight for Nate was fighting Pettis. I don’t think he has a chance against Brown.
