World MMA Top 10 Rankings - Vitor BelfortThe updated World MMA Rankings were released on Wednesday, Jan. 23. This system ranks the Top 10 MMA fighters from across the world in each of the seven most widely accepted men’s weight classes and the Top 10 pound-for-pound women fighters.

Taken into consideration are a fighter’s performance in addition to win-loss record, head-to-head and common opponents, difficulty of opponents, and numerous other factors in what is the most comprehensive rankings system in the sport.

Fighters who are currently serving drug-related suspensions are not eligible for Top 10 consideration until they have fought one time after the completion of their suspension.

Fighters must also have competed within the past 12 months in order to be eligible for Top 10 consideration unless they have a bout scheduled within a reasonable time frame.

Notes: Dan Henderson, Brian Bowles, and Dominick Cruz are ineligible for consideration because they haven’t fought in more than a year. Frankie Edgar and Clay Guida have been removed from the lightweight rankings due to their scheduled fights at featherweight, while Diego Sanchez has been removed from welterweight consideration due to his scheduled fight at lightweight.

did liz carmouche move up for accepting the rousey fight? for accepting a fight in the ufc? she hasn’t fought since last summer and she just gained at least 2 positions. lol

    • kingkongbundy

I can I see a couple of reasons why MMAweekly decided to do that.

      1. It could have been that MMAweekly didn’t know who Liz was or didn’t really see her fighters carefully prior to the announcement of this bout. MMAweekly has now gone back and check the video and is re-ranking her. So…MMAweekly wasn’t doing its job in the first place?

      2. MMAWeekly wants to be on Dana’s good side because as an MMA groupie organization that mooches off of the UFC, it can’t offend the UFC.

      3. MMAWeekly is is just dumb.

For some reason, I think the answer is 2 and 3 but most likely not 1.

  • zztoppppp

Liz Carmouche being moved into the top 10 is an absolute joke…just like mmaweekly’s rankings have been for the past two years

  • Urjiah Faber as #3 bantamweight? Man I really wish Bibiano would have come over to the UFC. And Mike Easton should be higher up there. Urjiah is an awesome fighter but his time is up he hasn’t won more then 2 fights in a row since 08′. And in the MW division oh please Vitor call out Chris Weidman. That division needs a clear contender. The HW division is looking nice. Looks like we have some good fights in line for whoever holds on to that belt.

    • Joey

Mike Easton just lost to the guy that’s one spot ahead of him. He could arguably not even be ranked with way he lost to him so I would say he is in a reasonable spot at #9.

I totally agree with the Weidman/Belfort fight though. The main problem is that Weidman has stated he won’t be ready until the summer and I am sure they want Anderson to fight sometime in the next 6 months so that would make things difficult.

And all I can say about Liz Carmouche being ranked all of the sudden is wow…..makes about as much sense as Chael Sonnen getting a title shot at Jones.

      • Liz Carmouche became ranked the same way Chael received his title shot from Jones. She took the fight. That’s the only thing she did.

      Get off vitors sack

      • WhiteyWhiteman

Why don’t you piss off and stop being such a waist of oxygen!

    • Mark McDowall

Agreed on all counts. Faber is the new gate keeper of the 135 division. He will be put in fights as a filler to beef up a weak card. Think Rich Franklin, Forrest Griffin etc.

Vitor vs Weidman would be an interesting fight. And yes as a fight to have a new #1 contender then I can see that. Honestly though I think Vitor is past it and if he did beat Weidman I see the same ending against Silva that happened before.

Either way…I don’t see Silva loosing for a long time no matter who he fights.

      • Silva just hasn’t slowed down a bit after all these years of facing top competition. I don’t see him winning the next ten fights though. Not that I’m counting him out I just think his body will have been through enough at some point. I really hope he retires with all his records set and undefeated in the UFC. He has really set the bar. GSP as well. Incredible record of top guys and just keeps winning. Jon Jones hasn’t been champ long but he has the ability to hold and break records.

        • Mark McDowall

He certainly hasn’t showed signs of slowing yet. It will happen, but I think he has at least 5 more GREAT fights in him. Obviously the competition is the biggest motivating factor for Silva. As he showed in the fight in Abu Dhabi against Damion Maia…he should have finished that fight early but it went the full 5 rounds. Give him some good fights and he will keep putting on good fights IMO.

          • JB

            Where’s Frankie Edgar?

          • Mark McDowall

I think its been over a year since his last fight so he gets taken out of the rankings. But he’s up there in the 145’s.

  • Timothy Malone

My thoughts on the light heavyweight rankings:

Even with a win over Gustaffson, I still think Davis should be below both him and Rua. That fight was over two years ago. Since that time Gustaffson hasn’t lost and has beaten two other of the top ten guys on this list, Te Huna and Rua (not to mention guys like Thiago Silva and Vladimir Matyushenko). Davis meanwhile has lost to Evans and beat no other top ten opponents except Boetsch, who should have been a middleweight. Rua likewise has only lost because he pretty much only fights top 10 guys. Davis hasn’t had good enough light heavyweight competition recently to justify that spot.

Likewise I would drop Mousasi and Te Huna to the bottom for the same reasons. Both are streaking but neither of them are facing top guys except Te Huna’s loss to Gustaffson. They are only on the list because Henderson has been out and Quinton Jackson has actually been fighting top competition and thus its harder for him to gain streaks like them (beating top guys like Henderson and Machida, but losing to top guys like Evans and Jones).

      Quit trolling troll

    • WhiteyWhiteman

      Couldn’t agree more.

  • james

these rankings are garbage. dan henderson isn’t even ranked! get the **** out of here.

    • George Sperry

Dan Henderson, Brian Bowles, and Dominick Cruz are ineligible for consideration because they haven’t fought in more than a year.

  • Stefano ‘Zwonimir’ Sega Nogaro

Liz Carmouche a top p4p fighter!!!??!! Better than Davis!!!!???? 0_0

    And Esparza?

    • Stefano ‘Zwonimir’ Sega Nogaro

funny, in the Unified Women’s MMA Rankings (made and updated by a panel of journalists from multiple MMA websites and publications and recognized as the official Women’s rankings) Carmouche is #7 in the BW behind Rousey, Kaufman, Davis, Tate, McMann and Baszler …

  • Pistol

I love mmaweekly but your rating system is the worst out of all the mma sites. Why leave ppl out that havnt fought in a year and then still have others on there that also havnt fought that long.

  • Pistol

Hector lombard and luke rockhold should both be top five in the middleweight. Rashad evans is NOT number two. Machida is above him and really dan hendo is the real number two if you added him as you should.

  • WhiteyWhiteman

I love this site. It’s where i come to get all my MMA news, But your rankings are terrible.

Im Australian and we all love James Te Huna, but seriously? NO 8.? Come on that is ridiculous.

Also i don’t think that you should take away people who haven’t fought for a while. Dan Henderson is fighting in Feb. LEAVE HIM THERE! He is the rightful NO 2. LHW. Someone like Brian Bowles, even though i still rank him i understand why he is out.
And when are you finally going to put in a Male Pound-For-Pound list huh? Is you can have a female list then there should defenitely be a male one.

  • not a fan

Your list is a joke. There’s many other sources for my MMA news. This will not be one of them ever. This isn’t a ranking list. This is a hater list. You mean to tell me that Dan Henderson isn’t ranked because of 13 months out. But Frank Mir’s last fight that was 12 months ago and a LOSS, puts him at #5…

  • MMAjnkyyy

They delete comments here. Really honest with your followers…. HATERS!!!!
