MMA Top 10 Rankings: Rousey, Cyborg and Zingano Top Women’s Pound-for-Pound

Posted on by MMAWeekly.com Staff

MMARankings-Rousey-Cyborg-ZinganoThe updated MMAWeekly.com World MMA Rankings were released on Wednesday, April 17. This system ranks the Top 10 MMA fighters from across the world in each of the seven most widely accepted men’s weight classes and the Top 10 pound-for-pound women fighters.

Taken into consideration are a fighter’s performance in addition to win-loss record, head-to-head and common opponents, difficulty of opponents, and numerous other factors in what is the most comprehensive rankings system in the sport.

Fighters who are currently serving drug-related suspensions are not eligible for Top 10 consideration until they have fought one time after the completion of their suspension.

Fighters must also have competed within the past 12 months in order to be eligible for Top 10 consideration unless they have a bout scheduled within a reasonable time frame.

Notes: Brian Bowles, Dominick Cruz, and Shane Carwin are ineligible for consideration because they haven’t fought in more than a year.

props to columnists that spend time to create these rankings, and I admit that IMHO they’re perfect …

    … except the women’s p4p …

no offence, but it seems made by a casual UFC fan with popularity as the main criteria, like if only BW exists and has no idea of how deep is the strawweight division …

this is only my opinion, is so subjective, but how Zingano, Kaufman, Tate, Davis and Carmouche (!) coould be over champions like Waterson and Esparza?

Waterson defeated via submission Penne, previously labeled as undefeatable and a BJJ wiz.

Invicta FC has all the best women’s divisions except BW and FLW.

OK maybe Carmouche is #6 in BW, but so how she can top Budd (maybe #3 FW), Eye and IFC champions like Waterson, Esparza and Honchak?

    • MMA Master

agree that Waterson should be on the list (would top the hottest list as well), but not necessarily above Zingano. Just b/c you’re a champ at your weight class, doesn’t mean you’re above others in a different one. Women’s MMA in particular, the competition is VERY different b/w the weight classes b/c there are still alot fewer ELITE women fighters.

Personally, Waterson should be around 8 or 9.

      1) Rousey

      2) Cyborg

      3) Zingano

      4) Coenen

      5) Mega Megu

      6) Sarah Kaufman

      7) Miesha Tate

      8) Michele Waterson

      9) Alexis Davis

      10) Sara McMann

      • Cereal Killer

        I disagree. this is more like it;

        1) Cyborg
        .
        .
        .
        .
        .
        .
        .
        .
        .
        .
        .
        .
        .

        2) Rousey

        3) Zingano

        4) Coenen

        5) Mega Megu

        6) Sarah Kaufman

        7) Miesha Tate

        8) Michele Waterson

        9) Alexis Davis

        10) Sara McMann

        • http://www.facebook.com/john.bunch.969 John Bunch

Agreed. No way Cyborg isn’t number one. Just wishful thinking to say otherwise until someone beats her.

          • Darren Summers

Who ha beat the girl at #1 ? You know the champion who has beat her ?

          • http://www.facebook.com/john.bunch.969 John Bunch

Just my opinion bro. Going into the Gina Carano fight…who was the champ at the time…fight fans expected a war. Cyborg destroyed her…it got AS vs Rich Franklin 1st fight ugly. Cyborg is a beast..until I see someone beat her…I could care less about these rankings. Yeah she cheated…and paid the price. But did you see her on her Invicta weigh in the other week? I got 85 pounds on her…and she scares the sh!t out of me.

          • Supaman

b/c she still on roids. If she came off of them, she could easily make 135 and fight Rousey.

          • Darren Summers

Cyborg got caught cheating and lost all credibility and now must prove her way back to the top this time with no roids

        • jeremy

yea lol thats why cyborg asked for her release from her UFC contract just to fight in invicta anyways.. she’s a coward and knows ronda would OWN her.. cyborg shouldnt even be on the list yet.

          • Cereal Killer

I agree she is a cheater, but she can’t make 135. That’s why she asked to leave. The UFC only has 135! Once they make a 145 in the UFC, she will own the title.

          • http://www.facebook.com/john.bunch.969 John Bunch

She’s a coward? lmao…thanks for that little bit of sarcasm. Hilarious. Wait…you weren’t serious, were you?

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Stefano-Zwonimir-Sega-Nogarole/784498372 Stefano ‘Zwonimir’ Sega Nogaro

still can’t understand why listing 6 BWs …

they are more popular because UFC add the BW division, but most of the people that are WMMA “hardcore” fans think that Strawweights are more talented and a deeper division …

Aguilar, Fujii, Esparza, Hyatt, Calderwood, Kankanpaa, Namajunas, Torres, Hamasaki, Gadelha, Inoue, …

Calderwood technically is far better as a fighter if compared to Kaufman and Carmouche …

btw p4p is so hard to list, hard to compare fighters that probably never cross their gloves each other

        • Supaman

JoJo Calderwood is a great prospect… but she’s still a prospect. She’s hasn’t really beaten anyone that worthy of notice. Her best win was probably Cummins?

Women’s BW right now is the most relevant but most importantly has the most depth.

Kaufman has been around awhile and has fought alot of top competition and has beaten virtually all the other top women. Only bad looking fight was against Rousey.

I like the Master’s list but I agree w/ you, I would’ve added Aguilar. He already had Fujii on there and took out Carmouche. So i’d say that’s a good list.

  • Joey

I would take Eduardo Dantas over Marlon Moraes, Mike Easton and Erik Perez.

  • Truth

Korean Zombie got SCREWED in this ranking. He’s obviously #2 behind Aldo, but at the VERY LOWEST #3.

    • http://www.facebook.com/john.bunch.969 John Bunch

Agree myself. He drops so that Curran can rise…even though KZ hasn’t fought in close to a year and is coming off a dominant performance. Can’t wait to see Lamas and KZ…should be the #1 contender fight to fight Aldo…but Pettis dropped and grabbed that fight. So if Aldo wins against Pettis…he stays…or moves up? All this weight class jumping and instant title fight stuff is really making it hard to anticipate where a division is going. And Edgar ranked above him…despite coming off 3 losses in a row? I understand the circumstances for those 3 losses…but seriously?

      • Supaman

100% agree. The Zombie can’t be lower than 3 and I had him at 2 myself.

Aldo has been saying that he wants to move up if he beats Pettis, but I’m not so sure that’s what he’s going to do. Prior to all that talk, he had been saying that he was still at least a year or two away from moving up (he said this around the Edgar fight). So unless fighting Edgar gave him all this confidence, or it’s just posturing to save some face after people said he was so hesitant to accept fight w/ Pettis.

  • Mots

How is Jussier da Silva #6? That guy can’t finish DINNER! He sucks like a street whore trying to raise rent money. #GTFO

  • http://www.facebook.com/hsuie63 Steven Hsu

cyborg needs to be on the bottom of the ladder….she beats a nobody one time, in 2 years time….it is too early to put her at #2, when just crushed 1 CAN…..it is not like she have been CRUSHING CANS outside of the ufc, to warrant her the second place

  • Anti-Americanism

    Ronda Rousey 1# ???? hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

    • http://www.facebook.com/john.bunch.969 John Bunch

I agree…without all the lol’s…she has a long way to go before she is without a doubt the best women’s fighter on the planet. I like her personally…but with 9 (?) fights…no way you can say that, imo.

  • Triggerman99

So you guys didn’t even have Scott Jorgensen previously ranked, but Faber moves up a spot for beating him? I guess that makes sense if you don’t think about it. lol
Don’t get me wrong, I think Jorgensen should have been in the top 10, but if you’re going to exclude him, at least be consistent and don’t bump up Faber for beating him if you don’t feel he’s even a top 10 guy to begin with.

    • Supaman

true, but they probably had him at #11. But you’re right, Jorgensen should’ve been ranked prior to Faber fight. Top 5 actually, even UFC ranks had him around there.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Chase-Brian-Beebe/100003036589335 Chase Brian Beebe

i dont see why he isnt hes got a win over pickett

  • Darren Summers

Gegard Mousassi didnt make the cut ???

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Chase-Brian-Beebe/100003036589335 Chase Brian Beebe

he shouldn’t be his biggest 205 win was babalu

  • Darren Summers

and you should have another drink of koolaid if you believe that hendricks beat condit or belongs above him

    • Supaman

dude… Condit lost the decision. Hendricks fought a boring fight… you could argue that the judging system should be changed, but plain and simple, Hendricks controlled the fight and won the clear decision.

  • remi

I get tired of “superfight” talk. Every champ in every division has more than enough contenders to deal with. GSP has only fought 3 of the current top 10. Anderson Silva…2. Jones….4? (sorry this is off top of my head) etc. Point being, people say the division has been “cleaned out” The division is NEVER cleaned out. I am a fan of GSP (however I’m gettin tired of watchin his fights lately) and I would rather see him fight guys that truly deserve it over a superfight anyday.

    • Supaman

Andy is almost 40, you want to waste the limited fights he has left on guys like Mark Munoz or Tim Boetsch…. or would you rather see him fight Jon Jones.

We’ve seen what happens when you get a disinterested Silva… u get the Leites fight or the Maia fight…

  • Orville

Watch for Jordan Mein to crack the top 10 and keep moving up! This guy had allready fought 13 times by the time he was only 17!, and now at 23 yrs old he’s finished 22 opponents including his smash out of Dan Miller on the Gsp/Diaz undercard.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Chase-Brian-Beebe/100003036589335 Chase Brian Beebe

he lost to woodley, not sold

      • Heathcliff

controversial split decision…watch the fight for yourself… or better yet…watch what happens to Matt Brown on Sat!

  • http://www.facebook.com/john.bunch.969 John Bunch

And at WW…no Fitch or Askren? Hard to believe.

    • Supaman

Fitch is teetering on the top 10. At best, maybe 9 but I could see him at 11. Askren should be at least 8.

  • JOE SHINE

Just keep Miesha big nose Tate out of the spotlight as she just loses all the big fights.

  • JOE SHINE

Meisha big nose tate is not worthy of ever being a champ. Too hated.

  • JOE SHINE

    Why rank Big Nose Tate?

  • Marcio Martins

Frankie Edgard fought once and lost, and is 5th in the division. Fought Maynard twice and won, and two decisions against the champion, and doesn´t appear in that division ranking.
