MMARankings_Photo-Pat HealyThe updated World MMA Rankings were released on Wednesday, May 1. This system ranks the Top 10 MMA fighters from across the world in each of the seven most widely accepted men’s weight classes and the Top 10 pound-for-pound women fighters.

Taken into consideration are a fighter’s performance in addition to win-loss record, head-to-head and common opponents, difficulty of opponents, and numerous other factors in what is the most comprehensive rankings system in the sport.

Fighters who are currently serving drug-related suspensions are not eligible for Top 10 consideration until they have fought one time after the completion of their suspension.

Fighters must also have competed within the past 12 months in order to be eligible for Top 10 consideration unless they have a bout scheduled within a reasonable time frame.

Notes: Brian Bowles, Dominick Cruz, and Shane Carwin are ineligible for consideration because they haven’t fought in more than a year.

  • Ron Couden

At least all the idiots that said Strikeforce fighters will get killed in the UFC can shut up now. Melendez, Thomson & Healy not only showed they are Top 10, they are also nearly the best the UFC has at LW.

    • MMA

It was mostly D-bag White who said “Strikefarce” fighters were beneath the UFC fighters.

    • Cptmats

      Most are !

  • Lucas Freire

I don’t see a reason for this ranking to still exist.
Other than Josh Barnett and some female MMA fighters, all the top fighters are in the UFC,and now the UFC has its own ranking…

    • zztoppppp

and pat curran, and eddie alvarez, and michael chandler, and pitbull friere…

    • Stefano ‘Zwonimir’ Sega Nogaro

… most of the female top fighters are not in UFC, simply that p4p women’s ranking is made by popularity so they load in it all the UFC BW division , despite SW and AW are the stacked divisions in WMMA …

  • Muay Thai

Yeah, i agree! These UFC nut huggers need to chill out. I’ve been saying all along that there are fighters outside of the UFC that are much much better than some of the “hyped” UFC fighters.

Strikeforce fighters were all legit. One FC also has a lot of legit fighters, but they just don’t have much exposure here in America, so people either discredit them. Guys like Honorio Banorio, Edward Folayang are all legit fighters that should be ranked.

MMA is not just about UFC fighters guys.

  • Koscheck in top 10 is laughable

  • Drock420

Ok I don’t understand how Mark Munoz is top 5, who has he beat to be in the #5 spot? He lost to yushin okami ffs, hasn’t beaten anyone on the top 10 middleweight list. He is way overrated. the UFC has a boner for Mark Munoz.

  • Adam Bianski

UMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM ok mma weekly explain this to me. Chael was the 8th ranked fighter at MW, loses to top LHW now is out of top ten. LOL think I need to find a new site because this just shows your lack of knowledge. This may be one of the most idiotic things I have ever seen, ROFL.

    • Sonnen was dropped from middleweight consideration not because he lost a light heavyweight bout, but because he fought a light heavyweight bout and declared that he intends to remain at light heavyweight, thus his current eligibility is as a light heavyweight.

    • Cptmats

“LOL think I need to find a new site because this just shows your lack of knowledge. ”
Actually the problem here is your lack of knowledge. Otherwise you would know that since Chael just fought at LHW he can not be ranked at MW until he fights in the division again

  • Cptmats

No way Hendricks in #2. I thought he lost to Condit and i would bet the farm on Ellenberger or MacDonald against him.
Cyborg would snap Ronda like a chicken wing as well !

    • Dooks

Hendricks beat Condit just under 2 months ago…he’s the obvious #2 right now. You thought wrong buddy!

      • Cptmats

I watched the fight and I don’t need you to tell me what I saw !
No I don’t believe he did beat Condit ! Nor would he beat MacDonald or Ellenberger which puts him around #5 or 6.
Diaz would prob beat him as well !
