Chris WeidmanThe updated MMAWeekly.com World MMA Rankings were released on Tuesday, July 9. This system ranks the Top 10 MMA fighters from across the world in each of the seven most widely accepted men’s weight classes and the Top 10 pound-for-pound women fighters.

Taken into consideration are a fighter’s performance in addition to win-loss record, head-to-head and common opponents, difficulty of opponents, and numerous other factors in what is the most comprehensive rankings system in the sport.

Fighters who are currently serving drug-related suspensions are not eligible for Top 10 consideration until they have fought one time after the completion of their suspension.

Fighters must also have competed within the past 12 months in order to be eligible for Top 10 consideration unless they have a bout scheduled within a reasonable time frame.

Notes: Dominick Cruz is ineligible for consideration because he hasn’t fought in more than a year. Pat Healy is ineligible for consideration because he is currently serving a drug-related suspension.

(Fighter’s previous ranking is in parenthesis.)

Still don’t like how Jacare is in front of Rockhold, while Jacare has a pretty decisive loss against him. If that’s the case how come Vitor isn’t in front of Silva. Gotta hold standards true to all fighters not just the ones you want.

    • KingLettuce

If Silva and Belfort fought again, who do you pick as winning? Just because he lost to Weidman doesn’t mean he loses to anyone else in the division (or even Weidman again).

      • Maddawgmar

I don’t think that Vitor should be ahead of Silva. I was pointing out that just because of a small winning streak it doesn’t necessarily put you in front of a guy who beat you a lost their last fight. If they are gonna put Rockhold behind Jacare, they have to put Silva behind Vitor.

      • Sir_Roy

He lost to Weidman because he dropped his gloves, and wanted to lose to Weidman – yelling at him to take the shot. And this for a plethora of possible reasons. Not the least of which are the betting odds. Same reason he let Maia last 5 rounds against him standing (no mean feat – trying to keep Maia alive in the stand-up for that long I mean. Took a heck of a lot of dancing and prancing around!).

    • shakejunt

rankings don’t mean anything, but it’s probably due to the finish.

  • KingLettuce

Finally someone gives some love to Nurmagomedov. Future champ! And Mark Hunt at number 9 is absurd. Top 15, maybe. Top 10, no way.

    • toom

finally someone posts something that makes sense hunt maybe the most overrated fighter

    • shakejunt

top 15 for sure, but i could see top 10 just because of how he ends fights. you’re on point though

    • TheCerealKiller

I agree with the part about Nurmagomedov 100%!

    • Baller31

Agree with both. Plus i love Nurmagomedov’s attitude, especially his quote about jiu jitsu when he fought in Brazil it was hilarious.

  • tyrone

Chris weidman certainly knows how to put pressure on a fighter and hes very elusive at same time as well as heavy handed,as well as big heart.
For the conspiracy theorist, if watching in slow mo you can see silvas eyes roll back and head hit floor first, meaning total ko.also why would silva escape out of knee bar?

  • Anon

How does Roy Nelson go from mid top ten to gone after one loss and frank Mir is 7 and a relic.

    • Maddawgmar

Do you think that consecutive losses to the number 1 (at the time) and number 3 in the division puts you out of the top ten? I don’t. Plus Roy lost to a guy out of the top ten so somewhat justified.

      • shakejunt

solid points, but frank is ranked top 10 based on history more than recent performances. remember how long forrest and tito were still ranked?

    • David Huenecke

It might be due to the fact he hasnt resigned with UFC or any other place I know of. So it might be pointless to rank a fighter who isnt active. Same thing with Cruz. He’s been out injured so long I didnt see him making the list.

  • Asa

How is josh thompson so far back? He had qars with gilbert and many believe he won esp me. And he just finished nate diaz! And Rory is behind ellenberger lol and kampman lol get real!

    • shakejunt

probably just because nate was coming off a loss. besides that it’s due to the difficulty in ranking alvarez and chandler. both arguably top 5 guys. he should be above maynard tho for sure.

martin is hard to rank too because his big wins were comebacks. rory is gonna run through jake anyway. soon enough

  • candelario

If Chris had trouble with Silva’s hand speed… it won’t be long before Vitor is #1

    • shakejunt

what trouble did you see? he was winning every minute of that fight.

remember how quickly vitor tapped to jones’ americana? i see a repeat

    • Baller31

Vitor always stumbles against wrestlers with good chins…see Ortiz, Couture, Henderson…I don’t see any trouble there for Weidman

  • Yuli Sergeivich

    1. what a horrible ranking table this is. Where is Shlemenko? Where is Koreshkov? Where is Askren? And where is Roy Nelson?????????? Where is Moussassi??????????

    2. Go TIM KENNEDY!!!!!!!!!!

    • shakejunt

winning a bellator tournament doesn’t get you a top 10 rank.

askren should be in there somewhere in the lower half.

      roy nelson is debatable

gegard hasn’t fought anyone ranked since getting layed on by mo. he’ll be ranked soon don’t worry, they just gotta give him a name fight.

tim kennedy… ugh… one of the people who need twitter taken away from them.

      • Drock420

It does if your Michael Chandler, he rightfully deserves the spot imo.

        • shakejunt

chandler won the tourney and then dethroned the champ, whereas shlemenko fought falcao for the vacant title. big difference.

          chandler absolutely deserves his spot.

  • tyrone

Right now this very minute,Chris Weidman is The Most Famous Man In the WORRRRLLLLLLLLLLDDDDDDDDDD.
    Behind J E S U S of course.

  • Freeman Free

Antonio Rogerio Nogueira at ranking 4 !!!!

are you kidding me this guy is a legend he should be on ranking 2 after Jon Jones

  • yakoondah

You don’t rank a guy who has been demolishing every top contender for the past few years below someone who just shot up through the ranks.
    Silva should still be #1.
He can take his belt, but Weidman still needs to defend, and probably win a rematch, before being ranked above Anderson.
Think about it – if there is a rematch now, and the odds are even, who do you put your money on?
