MMARankings_Photo-Brown-Sonnen-BrowneThe updated MMAWeekly.com World MMA Rankings were released on Friday, Aug. 23. This system ranks the Top 10 MMA fighters from across the world in each of the seven most widely accepted men’s weight classes and the Top 10 pound-for-pound women fighters.

Taken into consideration are a fighter’s performance in addition to win-loss record, head-to-head and common opponents, difficulty of opponents, and numerous other factors in what is the most comprehensive rankings system in the sport.

Fighters who are currently serving drug-related suspensions are not eligible for Top 10 consideration until they have fought one time after the completion of their suspension.

Fighters must also have competed within the past 12 months in order to be eligible for Top 10 consideration unless they have a bout scheduled within a reasonable time frame.

Notes: Dominick Cruz is ineligible for consideration because he hasn’t fought in more than a year. Pat Healy is ineligible for consideration because he is currently serving a drug-related suspension.

Is Rousey ever going to get P4P spot without fighting Cyborg? Overeem is lucky to be in top 10 still. This next fight is his last chance to redeem himself. Lil Nog ahead of Phil Davis? Kennedy and Souza making the MW division a little interesting. 6 fight win streak and Matt Brown still hasn’t fought 1 guy in the top 10 and wants to call out GSP for a title shot. I wish they did Melendez vs Maynard as his fist fight and Grant against Sanchez. Aldo has 2 fight tops left in his division. He shouldn’t have to rematch 2 more guys. Mendez earned his shot again and Lamas should really be next. Urijah Faber is ranked #2 what else is new. The Rashad Evans of the division. Except Rashad didn’t get a title shot every two fights for five years. FW divsion still needs need talent. No disrespect to the fighters, it’s still really new and I don’t know many names out there who I want to see come over to the UFC to shake things up.

    • Steven Thurman

You act like Faber doesnt deserve his #2 position.. you must forget he has dominated everyone thrown at him, aside from the champions, and very well could have had that Cruz fight.

      • drkdisciple

I agree with you…I hate Faber but he seems to be able to beat everyone but the champion.

        • El Gvapo

It’s a very tough situation he’s in. It’s difficult when the champ will beat everyone in the division, yet the second best fighter would also beat everyone else except for the champ. In a way, that’s what made the MW division so good. Anyone could beat anyone except for Anderson and there was no clear number one challenger (I am aware this theory is now out of the window) whereas in several other divisions there is a clear 1st & 2nd place with everyone else well below.

      • http://www.CombatScienceMMA.com/ CombatScienceMMA

This is true. I wish he could go up in weight and fight Edgar. He’s been around a long time and a superfight is something big for his career since he keeps coming up short for that belt.

    • Maddawgmar

Rousey will get P4P when Cyborg gets caught cheating again. Then lose it when she returns from suspension. I have been saying for months Souza ahead of Rockhold is rediculous. Urijah has only ever lost to champions with the exception of an early loss to Tyson Griffin. I think FW is really stacked compared to BW, it’s just looks like it isn’t cuz Aldo is so dominant. Edgar will be top 2 shortly.

      • http://www.CombatScienceMMA.com/ CombatScienceMMA

You pretty much called it on the spot except for Souza and Rockhold. The only reason they give Souza the head is because he won and finished his first UFC fight. Rockhold lost but I mean no shame in a loss to the animal in Vitor Belfort.

        • Maddawgmar

I understand that, but I still believe Rockhold is ahead of him. A loss to the number two fighter in the world is not bad. And beating a non rated fighter is nothing special. I agree with USA today’s middleweight rankings. Weidman, Silva, Belfort, Okami, Bisping, Rockhold, Munoz, Spouza, Phillipou, Boetch.

  • drkdisciple

lil Nog being ranked 3rd is a joke.

    • fsunoles10

damn near everybody below him would demolish him.

      • drkdisciple

I agree 100% with you…even non ranked guys like Bader and Thiago Silva would have decent chances at beating him!

    • Jay Mcgarrity

Seriously, 4-2 in the ufc and he’s at 3rd? His 2 losses are against tough guys (phil davis, ryan bader) yet bader doesn’t even make the cut anymore. His last two wins were against a really bad looking Rashad and Tito who most will argue always looks bad. How does that get you 3rd? August fools prank? ahah you got us, I’d fix it though before it effects credibility.

  • El Gvapo

What?!? No Conor McGregor in the top 10? But the UFC has lead me to believe that he’s the greatest of all time and a future hall of famer. I can’t wait to see him fight Bones in a much anticipated super fight.

  • El Gvapo

Mmaweekly.com, when a fighter is a new entry in the top 10, can you also let us know which fighter has lost his/her place in the rankings? I always forget and can’t be arsed checking back through old stories to find out. Cheers.

  • TheCerealKiller

I want Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Michael Chandler! Oh wait, Chandler is fighting in the minor leagues…

How the F are Asskren and Chandler ever ranked?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

  • Bugster

How does Costa Phil make it to 6 at middleweight. He beat a bar fighter.

  • Andrei Iorga

Chael sonnen beat everyone after vitor at 185 … and he is not even ranked there … thats just flawed

    • Lucas Freire

Because he’s not fighting at 185.

      • Andrei Iorga

Well listen. I gonna be realistic here . We are talking about a guy that almoust got the title at 185; a guy that delivered the most one sided beating that anderson silva will probably ever get, and he was in that division a year ago. How could u not rank him at 185 ? Just because he had a fight (2 by now) at 205 ? So when anderson silva had a fight at 205, we needed to get him out temporarily from the 185 rankings ? I mean Chael said for quite some time he will go to 185 again. Just for this reason alone he should of been in the 185 rankings that just got released. Dont u think so ?

        • Lucas Freire

No. I understand your reasoning, and it’s completely logical. The difference resides in the fact that Anderson said that he was going up for a fight(that became a few).
Chael said he was going up for good.

          • Andrei Iorga

Yes. I know that. But still.
Chael said for quite some time that he is going back to 185. These rankings should at least be updated before he fights againt at 185.

  • http://www.dynamicresults.com/ Henry J Evans

In which world is Cyborg ranked #1?? Is this the “new math”?

  • MMAreality

Come on Silva should still be number. Weidman will lose that belt in his next fight.
