Michael ChandlerThe updated MMAWeekly.com World MMA Rankings were released on Wednesday, Aug. 7. This system ranks the Top 10 MMA fighters from across the world in each of the seven most widely accepted men’s weight classes and the Top 10 pound-for-pound women fighters.

Taken into consideration are a fighter’s performance in addition to win-loss record, head-to-head and common opponents, difficulty of opponents, and numerous other factors in what is the most comprehensive rankings system in the sport.

Fighters who are currently serving drug-related suspensions are not eligible for Top 10 consideration until they have fought one time after the completion of their suspension.

Fighters must also have competed within the past 12 months in order to be eligible for Top 10 consideration unless they have a bout scheduled within a reasonable time frame.

Notes: Dominick Cruz is ineligible for consideration because he hasn’t fought in more than a year. Pat Healy is ineligible for consideration because he is currently serving a drug-related suspension.

(Fighter’s previous ranking is in parenthesis.)

I stopped reading when I saw Machida was dropped to 6th at Light Heavyweight after being robbed by the judges in the Davis fight.
The voters had the opportunity to show that they know MMA better than the fools who gave Davis that victory and instead rolled over and added to the screw job.
    Te rankings are a joke.

    • Seth

Burned Machida fanboy? He put worst performance of his career against Hendo and lost (robbed or not) not Davis. I don’t see why that situation should put him in Top 5…just saying…and now, best part – Im waiting for hates.

      • Seth

        to Davis*

    • battle ready

At the very least he shouldn’t drop from 2 to 6 with a controversial decision. Who has Davis legitimately beat to warrant going up the ladder?

      • Seth

Rankings dont give a f*** about skills. They are created based on last perfomances and win/lose record. Thats why Anderson isnt first at 185 for example. Is Machida better than Davis? Yeah, probably. Did he fought like piece of s*** against Hendo? Hell Yeah. Did he fought like real Machida against Davis? Hell No. Here’s your answer why he dropped out of Top 5.

      • shakejunt

the number 2 and 3 guys?

      • Seth

No one legit. That no one legit is fighting for 205lbs belt soon. Stupid.

    • Ismael Vergara

agree with you buddy, Davis is no way near

  • Stefano ‘Zwonimir’ Sega Nogaro

Liz Carmouche o_0 cauz she battered a flyweight/strawweight?
SW is far more stacked than BW in WMMA, I rather see Esparza or Gadelha as #10, or even Waterson.

    • dogh

Yeah, but how many see these girls fight? A ton of people saw Liz. UFC fighters always get the nod.

      • Stefano ‘Zwonimir’ Sega Nogaro

I know that in some societies all works around popularity, but we must recognize that doesn’t works worldwide and that popularity =/= skills … and for this reason we’ve sport experts that follow even the less recognized promotions and leagues to discover talents …

if u rely only on popularity so u head into some bizarre statements like Alessio Sakara > Mamed Khalidov.

Is not that casual fans have the last word in this sport …

        • Seth

Polish guy here – newsflash, Khalidov sucks. He beats up cans and nobodies, making money for fn KSW.

          • Stefano ‘Zwonimir’ Sega Nogaro

and so Khalidov should be lower ranked than Sakara, Swick, Herman, Dollaway, Camozzi, Lawlor, Natal, Howard, Tavares, Craig and all the other UFC fillers because he’s not in the big stage …
            right logic …
for the first time I can agree with Rampage when he says that some MMA fans are sheeps …

      • shakejunt

invicta has routinely had server issues due to getting more traffic than they can handle to the point that they moved to ppv… yeah, nobody sees them.

  • Kuuzo

Megumi Fujii is retired, shouldn’t that take her off the list?

    • Stefano ‘Zwonimir’ Sega Nogaro

she’ll fight a last bout in october and then retire

  • silent_nick

Does anyone on the planet really think that Antonio Rogerio Nogueira is the 3rd best light heavyweight on the planet?

    • shakejunt

absolutely not, but he’s just in a weird spot i guess. old guard transitioning out, new guys creeping in.

  • TheCerealKiller

Ben Askren and Michael Chandler have no business on this list. They have not fought anyone on the top ten list! All I have to say to support my theory… Lombard.

    • JayD

Now that’s a man with knowledge of the sport. As I read the headline for this, those were my precise thoughts. What Top 10 guys are they beating to move up in ranking? None. What a load of mess.

    • Joe

Yeah, it doesn’t make sense that Bellator guys just have to beat bums to move up while UFC guys are always fighting top 10 guys. UFC and Bellatot aren’t on the same level. Bellators guys either fight top 10 guys or see their rankings fall.

      • SeverKnight

Look, Michael Chandler deserves to be in the top 10. He may not have beaten UFC top 10 guys directly but you can connect the dots. Michael Chandler beat Eddie Alverez who Beat Pat Curran, destroyed Roger Huerta, Josh Neer and Shinya Aoki in their last fight. The #2 UFC lightweight Gilbert Malendez only grinded out a 5 round decision over Aoki. Chandler also beat Tri Star gym Rick Hawn who trains with GSP and just recently K.O’d former UFC contender Karo Parisyan at 170 and out of all of Gono’s opponents, Chandler’s win was the most dominate by far. I personally think Chandler is the number 1 lightweight in the world. You also need to realize that the top 3 lightweights in the UFC right now were former champions from what many would call “Lower” organizations, so why not Michael Chandler?

    • Clizzark

Maybe one of these days you people will finally start to understand rankings, but it doesn’t look like that day is near…

    • Mark McDowall

You can throw Texiera on that list too…he’s beaten a past it Rampage…and who else?? And he’s #4 LHW?!?!

      • shakejunt

glover is hype-inflated, BUT just look at the guys below him. would you really take any of those guys over him? hell, i think he would beat nog and could give gus trouble too.

        • Mark McDowall

You make a great point man!! Would I take anyone below him…probably not. BUT there are guys below him that have fought alot of tougher opponents then Glover…

          Who knows??

      • pablos esocbar

he beat kyle kingsbury. the greatest of all time

        • Mark McDowall

Lol…he has one of the greatest mustache’s of all time thats about it.

But when you have to consider Kingbury in your top 3 best opponents…yeah doesn’t really make for a strong case for a title shot.

    • Cptmats

      yes

    • shakejunt

eddie alvarez is/was top 10 material and chandler has absolutely demolished everyone else in his path. i understand ghono, hawn, and rickels aren’t a murderer’s row but the alvarez win is significant.

askren is lights out, entertainment wise, but he’s unbelievably good on the ground with his transitions and top control. he’s yet to face top competition, but his position is arguable.

      what’s your stance on curran?

  • Dale Coonfield

Silva still should be number one, no one in their right mind thinks that he won’t get his belt back when he fights next.

    • Carlson West

Hes not getting his belt back…

      • Cptmats

He’s def getting his belt back.

        • shakejunt

rampage still wants his belt back

    • shakejunt

and no one “in their right mind” thought he would lose it in the first place. he lost round 1 handily and got slept in round 2. he can absolutely win the rematch, but stop acting like he was winning the entire fight up until a freak ko.

  • jeremias

    kampman over mcdonald?? WTF?

  • Triggerman99

Who is Cris Cyborg Justino? Is it that Cris Cyborg Santos guy’s cousin or something?

    • Ismael Vergara

      LOL

  • Guest

Chris Weidman at #1…WHAT?!!! Weidman sucks!

    • shakejunt

      you’re still hurtin, that’s adorable

  • William Harcum

I know it would never happen, but it would be awesome to see a cross promotional fight between bellator and UFC to see how some of the bellator champs would fair against some competition. I believe Chandler is a top 10 guy, but hard to justify him moving up without beating ranked opponents (excluding alvarez)

  • max_in_missouri

With all due respect, anyone who doesn’t think Michael Chandler belongs on this list is a ******* idiot.
