Undefeated in four trips to the Octagon and maintaining a 15-1 overall professional record, Mike Russow still never seems to be the favorite heading into a fight. He most certainly isn’t the favorite as he prepares for Fabricio Werdum at Saturday’s UFC 147 in Brazil.

But that’s okay by Russow, he’s happy to be the underdog. It puts all the pressure on his opponent, leaving him with nothing to do but make big plans.

“I want to take Fabricio out,” Russow said in a recent UFC interview.

Doing so would not only surprise several pundits, but also immediately propel him into the upper echelon of the UFC heavyweight division.

  • The Brazil card is going to be a huge flop. It was originally going to be huge with the Anderson Silva vs Chael Sonnen rematch but now that the rematch was moved, there is no one left. Wand is fighting Rich Franklin in the main event, decent but the rest of the card doesn’t look great.

Just because a card doesn’t have a lot of well known fighters doesn’t mean the card will flop. Wasn’t one of the best fights in UFC history between 2 unknowns (Bonnar vs Griffin)? How many amazing WEC events were there when there was nobody with a big name on the card? Writing off an entire card because it isn’t full of headline fighters is asnine.

Umm…not really. Bonnar vs Griffen was overrated by Dana.

I didn’t even care to watch TUF. When that UFC noob show was going on, I was watching the PRIDE MW tourney.

Why do you think Machida vs Shogun I, at that time, was so exciting? The fight itself was boring. But the two fighting had a lot of fans.

So because the card is full of fighters that aren’t big names, it’s going to automatically be bad? I still stand by my statement that that kind of logic is asnine. Judge whether a card was good or bad afterwards.

Bonnar vs Griffin I was one of the most fun fights I’ve ever watched. Just because you were watching Pride when it was happening doesn’t detract from the fact that it was a great fight.

And Machida vs Shogun I was a good fight too. It was great to watch 2 guys who were so skilled go back and forth. I didn’t agree with the decision at the time, but it doesn’t meant it wasn’t a great fight.

I have a feeling Russow is going to receive his second career loss in the hands of Werdum. Last time Russow fought a top 10 guy was in PRIDE against Kharitonov.

For some reason, the UFC was not giving Russow meaningful fights. And now the UFC is giving him Werdum. Why not let him fight and beat Mitrione, Kongo, and other UFC bottom of the barrel dudes?

      • RubeKegal

Russow will lose due to his massive titties and gut.

        • Machterf5

yeah. I remember the fight with Todd Duffee too.

          • Lesnardo

One of my favorite fights is Overeem vs Duffee where Duffee fought someone bigger than him and got pwned.
