Undefeated prospect Kenny Robertson will finally get his chance to debut in the Octagon in February when he faces a very tough challenge in Mike Pierce. The welterweights will lock horns at UFC 126.
The fight was confirmed to MMAWeekly.com on Friday by sources close to the match-up, with verbal agreements in place but no signed bout agreements at this time. The fight was originally reported by MMAJunkie.com.
Robertson (10-0) was originally scheduled to make his Octagon debut in November at UFC 122 in Germany, but a late injury suffered in training forced him off the card. Now healthy, Robertson will try to keep his record perfect when he steps foot in the Octagon for the first time in February.
Finishing nine out of 10 opponents, Robertson is a tough match-up for anyone on the welterweight division, but he will definitely have his hands full in his first fight for the UFC.
Mike Pierce (11-3) has been a tough customer for every opponent he’s faced in the UFC since coming to the promotion in 2009. His only loss has come by way of decision to perennial top five welterweight Jon Fitch, but Pierce definitely let his presence be known giving the American Kickboxing Academy fighter all he could handle for three rounds.
Pierce has since built a two fight win streak in the UFC, and wants to extend that to three when he faces Robertson.
All signs point to the fight between Pierce and Robertson ending up on the non-televised undercard, although the UFC has yet to officially announce the card or the bouts upcoming for the Super Bowl weekend show.
