While the fight has not been signed by Strikeforce yet, Kyle announced the fight via his Twitter account on Monday.
“It’s on March 3 Ohio baby,” Kyle wrote. “Mak Kyle and Mousasi, beast mode!”
No official confirmation has been given by Strikeforce regarding the light heavyweight showdown, but all signs point towards the fight happening at the next major show for the promotion in early March.
Mike Kyle looks to get back into the title race with a win after picking up a victory in his last fight also in Ohio last September. He defeated Marcos Rogerio de Lima by decision.
Gegard Mousasi would be returning after defeating Ovince St-Pruex in his last fight as well, putting him squarely in the crosshairs of another run at the Strikeforce light heavyweight title.
The match-up also appears to make sense with this timing due to former champion Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal’s suspension forthcoming after testing positive for steroids following his win over Lorenz Larkin in early January.
If the fight becomes a done deal, Kyle vs. Mousasi would almost certainly determine at least one of the participants in a potential title fight to crown a new 205-pound champion in Strikeforce.
