Mike Brown will try to sing his redemption song on just two weeks notice. The American Top Team fighter has stepped up to face Rani Yahya at the upcoming UFC Fight for the Troops show at Fort Hood, Texas, after an injury forced the “Korean Zombie,” Chan Sung Jung, off the card.
Brown’s placement in the fight was confirmed to MMAWeekly.com by sources close to the negotiations. MMAJunkie.com first reported the switch.
Brown returned to the UFC earlier this month at UFC 125, but lost a split decision to Diego Nunes. A very close fight, Brown damaged the Brazilian early, but the judges went the other way, giving Nunes the win.
Never one to sit back and wait for an opportunity, Brown jumped at the chance to get in and fight again, and erase the memory of a tough loss in his last bout.
Yahya returns to action off of back-to-back losses to close out his WEC career. The Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu ace dropped fights to Joseph Benavidez and Takeya Mizugaki, and will be in a must win situation on Jan. 22.
The fight between Brown and Yahya will remain on the preliminary portion of the show set to go down on Spike TV.
