Miesha Tate vs Cat Zingano

Miesha Tate and Cat Zingano

The winner of the next UFC women’s bout could be next in line for a shot at UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey, who just solidified her status at UFC 157 on Saturday night in Anaheim, Calif.

Miesha Tate and Cat Zingano are set to fight at The Ultimate Fighter 17 Finale. Being the next women’s fight on the UFC schedule, it’s no surprise then that they are considered as the next likely contenders to Rousey’s belt.

While he didn’t exactly confirm the winner would be granted the shot, UFC president Dana White during Saturday night’s post-fight press conference said, “That would make sense,” when asked if the winner would be get a title shot.

It would be a fairly quick return trip for Tate, who lost her Strikeforce championship to Rousey roughly one year ago. She has since defeated Julie Kedzie, via Rousey’s favored technique, the armbar, just last August.

A win over Zingano would put her right back in the thick things, possibly getting her a rematch, this time with Rousey’s belt on the line.

Zingano isn’t a widely known name in the MMA world, although it should be. She has fought her way to a spotless 7-0 record, finishing all but one of her opponents.

Zingano is a well rounded fighter with strong wrestling, dangerous submissions, and powerful striking.

She is coming off of a victory over Raquel Pennington at Invicta FC 3, and holds wins over former SmackGirl champion Takayo Hashi and Carina Damm.

Marloes Coenen would beat Ronda in three rounds. I don’t know why the world wants Tate, who is an average fighter, to get armbarred again.

    • thefacts

Tate (average) beat Coenen with an arm-triangle.

I don’t see Tate getting past Cat so I think it will be Cat taking the title away.

I love these WMMA fights! It gives me a chance to get up and piss, grab some nachos and get another beer.

C’mon man have some respect. These girls are training in professional mixed martial arts, dedicating their loves to the sport. They didn’t ask to be born women. If they were born men they would be men fighting b/c they have the same heart and passion to put their time into training. I only applied to defend the women otherwise I love these Cereal Killer comments. It gives me a chance to appreciate a bland sense of humor. ;) Just enjoy the talent man.

i don’t really believe women are oppressed and i don’t believe i have to respect someone just because it’s politically correct.

i think the women that have been signed so far will put on good fights and raise interest and respect levels for the division in the ufc. they’ll win over even most bigots on their own, so you won’t have to defend them anymore. lol

I will always defend the fighters. Well the ones who deserve it. Sometimes it’s fun. I don’t want to insult any fan of mma. I love the fans. I just don’t like when fighters don’t get respect.

Thank you, thank you! Actually, the fight was or exciting last weekend than the Hendo/Machida fight.

Yea that rear naked/neck crank was the highlight of that fight. Then Ronda just tossed her to the side. Def an exciting fight for just under 5 minutes.

          • Amanda Martinez

Not sure if you guys watched the post interviews, Ronda said she “felt in control and was not worried” during the neck crank. Now this kind of thing would look like minimizing coming from the likes of less credible fighters, but Ronda doesn’t strike me as the type to fib. She also said she was trying to adjust her top during the hold, so while it was a good effort by Liz I’m not sure it was as brutal as people think.

          • http://www.CombatScienceMMA.com/ CombatScienceMMA

Oh Ronda was for sure not in any danger. But still the neck crank was really the highlight of the fight then Ronda just threw her off with ease. If Ronda works thai boxing she will for sure be the best out there. I don’t see anyone beating her.

What do you think is neck for Ronda?

      wow ur a gem

    • Monique

Im pretty sure u would rather do that than watch 2women that could probably kick ur ass lol

  • Cesarhquintero

I just think, yes don’t get me wrong that fight last night was bad azz but what’s gonna happen when Ronda leaves ? Are we gonna get stuck with some women’s fights that don’t entertain at times so I think Dana really gambled on this one but I don’t mind seeing Ronda have a good title run with a lot of defenses

  • pickaname

Cat will dominate Tate. Everyone is underestimating her.

The Rousey-Carmouche fight was about a billion times more entertaining than the Machido-Henderson snooze-fest that came before it last night. Both fighters in the Rousey-Carmouche bout went in there to give it their all. Machido went in there to give as little as he possibly could and still pull of a win. I’d pay again to see Rousey or Carmouche again. I wouldn’t pay a plugged nickel to see Machido again.

I would rather see the winner of Alexis Davis vs Sara McMann get the first shot at the title with the Zingano/Tate winner getting the next slot.

Ya Cat is so exciting! Cant wait for this one. =) Some men are only excited to watch other men. No judgement. To each their own. Personally I love watching talented athletes men or women

Check Cat out in action. Go to 5 minutes in and see her throws… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-F76Gbb_02w

get on you tube and look up Cat Zingano vs Barb honchak. Put in to 5 minutes in to see Cat’s awesome throw!! =)

  • KNJacobs

It makes sense, it also gives the UFC time to build the one who I think poses the most relevant threat…Sara McMann. When she puts in some more work at developing her skills, a fight with her and Rousey will be an absolute barn-burner.

  • Michael Bautista

Makes the most sense out of any, Miesha Tate had given Rousey her toughest fight to date, until Liz Carmouche, plus there’s genuine dislike (at least from Tate) between them.

  • Randi

I think Zingano has good striking and great in the clinch. kinda reminds me of a female Nick Diaz with her southpaw stance and constant pressure. Should be a good one!
