Maximo Blanco Dropping to Featherweight, UFC Move Likely

September 14, 2011

Maximo Blanco

Maximo Blanco‘s time at lightweight appears to be finished.

The former Sengoku veteran who debuted for Strikeforce last weekend in Cincinnati, OH will now be dropping down to featherweight for his next fight under the Zuffa umbrella.

Sources close to the fighter confirmed the move to MMAWeekly.com on Wednesday. MMAFighting.com first reported the story.

Blanco’s move seemed logical after facing a massive lightweight in Pat Healy for his Strikeforce debut. After a strong start to the fight, Blanco was submitted by Healy in the 2nd round by rear naked choke.

According to sources close to Blanco’s camp, the Venezuelan is now likely to shift over to the UFC to fight in the featherweight division, although at this point verbal agreements are only in place, no contracts have been signed.

Prior to his loss in Strikeforce, Blanco had won his last six fights in a row.
