Matt Hughes at UFC 123

After a bit of deliberation, Matt Hughes and Josh Koscheck are now set to face off in the co-main event for UFC 135 coming up on Sept. 24 in Denver.

UFC president Dana White announced the new fight on Tuesday via Twitter.

Originally, Hughes was set to face “Ultimate Fighter” season 1 winner Diego Sanchez on the card, but Sanchez suffered a broken hand in training and was forced back to the sidelines.

In his place, Josh Koscheck offered to step up and accept the fight, and now he faces Hughes in a bout the American Kickboxing Academy fighter has been asking about for years.

Hughes returns to action for the first time since UFC 123 in November 2010 when he lost by knockout to B.J. Penn.

Koscheck also comes back from a loss after suffering a defeat to current UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre at UFC 124 in Montreal last December.

Hughes and Koscheck meet as the co-main event for UFC 135, which is headed up by light heavyweight champion Jon “Bones” Jones taking on Quinton “Rampage” Jackson.

  • Bad match-up for Hughes but I’ll be pulling for him. Have to admire the guy’s heart and dedication to the UFC. I’ve never heard of him turning down a fight.

    Matt is done…..bubbye

Koscheck by DEATH! Hughes will lose & if he loses badly, then he will mostlikely retire! Surprised Koscheck took this fight b/c he wants to fight Bonnar @ MW (how is Bonnar going to make MW?), but on the other hand I’m not one bit surprised Koscheck took this fight, since he’s been wanting to fight Hughes for yrs! Hughes should have retired long time ago. Good for him for sticking with figthing/MMA b/c of his love for it, b/c he knows what we al lknow… he wouldnt be able to last 3 rounds Vs. any of the top 10 WW’s, let alone get a title shot. RIP Hughes!

Again, even you experts posting predictions, you don’t know who will win a fight until it’s over!
Regardless of Hughes being older and at the end of his career, you never know what will happen!
Kos might ko Matt…Matt might choke kos out or win decision, who never know!
The only sure thing is I will be cheering Matt Hughes on,with the hope Josh Kos gets beat!

    • Relax guy, it’s only the internet. Posting opinions, predictions… is kind of the whole point of the comments section.

Haha. It’s funny how Koshcheck keeps ruining Sanchez’s party. But all jokes aside, I pick the hall of famer.

Kos may be one of the few guy left that Matt matches up well with…….He’s got a shot !

  • Hughes should have retired a long time ago? What the hell are you talking about? In the past DECADE he has lot to St. Pierre, Penn, and Alves. That’s it. How does that translate to needing retirement? Hughes is still a contender.

I’m cheering for the old guy

People are taking Hughes out of this fight waaaaaay to easily. The dude is talented as hell and still has what it takes. That being said, I do think kos has the better hands and he should be able to neutralize the wrestling, but he’s only got 3 weeks to prepare. Also, if he was working up to middleweight, this could be a tough cut.

just not into this fight, its a waste of card space, i would rather kimbo fight christine cygorg
