Nine-time UFC champion Matt Hughes says he will return to the Octagon on April 10 against an unnamed opponent.
Hughes posted the bulletin Monday on his personal website.
Though not even rumored at this time, UFC 112 would be the likely event where Hughes would fight.
The once-dominant welterweight has not appeared since May when he defeated fellow “Ultimate Fighter” season six coach Matt Serra by unanimous decision at UFC 98.
Since then, a rash of rumors have followed Hughes’ next move, chief among them a fight with Gracie statesman Renzo.
Hughes played coy on the details.
“I’ll tell you later who and where when I find out for sure if it is confirmed,” he wrote.
Hughes has hit a rough patch recently, going 2-3 since losing his crown to Georges St-Pierre at UFC 65. He has gone back and forth on the issue of retirement, though he has promised to stick with the promotion as long as they need him.
