Matt Brown UFCA welterweight match-up between Matt Brown and Erick Silva will headline UFC Fight Night 40 in Cincinnati on May 10. Fox Sports first reported the news on Monday and UFC officials later confirmed the headlining bout.

Brown (18-11) is riding a six-fight winning streak. He was scheduled to face Carlos Condit at UFC on Fox 9 on Dec. 14, but a back injury forced him out of the fight. The 33-year-old hasn’t been defeated since 2011 and is currently ranked seventh in the 170-pound division. The Ohio native lobbied to be on the card.

Silva (16-4, 1 NC) has fought in the UFC seven times amassing a 4-3 promotional record. He knocked out Takenori Sato in his last outing on Feb. 15 and earned a Performance of the Night bonus.

UFC Fight Night 40 takes place at U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati on May 10. The last time a UFC event was held in Cincinnati was UFC 77 on Oct. 20, 2007.

No disrespect to Erick Silva but Carlos Condit was a way bigger fight for Matt Brown. That injury really cost him a high profile fight. Brown vs Kim would be a good fight as well.

    • DQ

Brown lost to Kim in 2008 by split decision. Though they’re now both ranked much higher than they were back then.

Good call; I forgot about that fight. They should have gave him Josh Koscheck since he at least fought GSP for the title before. Either way I’m sure both guys will be aggressive in this fight and somebody will get ko’d.

I was going to say the same thing. Brown is on a six fight win streak, he deserves a better fight than this. Silva is only 3-3 over his last six…

Josh Koscheck? If he isn’t retired. All though both of these guys can put on a good fight they can’t be so careless with the top guys in the division. Ellenberger would even be a great fight although I really hope to see him fight Hendricks or Woodley at some point.

        • TheCerealKiller

The only problem is that Kos is on a three fight losing streak. I think he’s done, been KO’ed too many times.

disagree i think this will put brown in the top five silva a bigger name than big dong. he can win this fight i think carlos would beat brow so a better fight for him imo

    • TheCerealKiller

How does beating an unranked fighter move him up two spots passing Ellenberger and Shields? Dong is at least ranked at ten.

      • tnt

because sheilds is overrated shouldnt even be in top ten in ellenberger… in silva a prettyboy there more hype around him right now

I can’t wait for Lombard to put him
          away

        • Ryan thompson

I guess his record doesn’t matter.
Shields has beat a lot of great fighters.

    • Lucas Freire

How is that so? Stun Gun got a HUGE KO on Silva and on his last fight. He’s on a tear. His last legit loss was against Condit. And guess what? He also already defeated Matt Brown! Nothing better than a rematch while both fighters are at their best!
