UFC Fight Night Berlin Fight PosterA day after Gegard Mousasi teased the bout, the UFC has announced the Mousasi will face Mark Munoz in a five-round, middleweight headliner at UFC Fight Night 41 (aka UFC Berlin) on May 31 in Berlin.

The fight will take place in the O2 World Berlin arena, and airs live on UFC Fight Pass.

UFC Fight Night 41 is one of two international UFC events to take place on May 31. Later in the day, Chael Sonnen vs. Wanderlei Silva is expected to headline The Ultimate Fighter Brazil 3 Finale in Brazil.

Mousasi (34-4-2) made his middleweight debut in his most recent bout with Lyoto Machida. The two headlined a UFC Fight Night event in Brazil in February, with Machida winning a unanimous decision after five rounds.

Mousasi talked about the Machida fight on UFC Tonight on Wednesday, but then was goaded into all-but confirming the fight with Munoz.

Prior to the loss to Machida, Mousasi had been on a run that saw him winning six bouts, while drawing in another.

After a year on the sidelines due to injury and a bout with depression, Munoz (13-4) returned last summer with a victory over Tim Boetsch, but then had his hopes to make a run at the middleweight title sidetracked by a loss to Machida.

Now, both men coming off of losses to Machida, Mousasi and Munoz will step in the Octagon together to determine who gets back on track.

“I’ve always wanted to go to Berlin. To be able to compete there is an added bonus,” said Munoz about the fight. “Berlin is a historic place and I’m looking forward to being part of MMA history and putting on a great show for the fans! Mousasi is a great opponent and competitor. I am looking forward to competing against him and getting one step closer to fighting for the title.” will have further UFC Berlin bout announcements in the coming weeks.

not the greatest headline, although if Munoz goes back to his roots it might be closer than expected.

Its european-non-UK card…what you expected? Title fight?

  • Shartnado2, the Sloppy One

    Eh, very missable card

Sucks that we can’t “down vote” comments on here like we used to…..

agreed. the whole “be nice” thing doesn’t work. people who say stupid things need to be called out and it should be known that other people disagree.

One whole match and the whole thing is miserable? Don’t watch it then, crybaby.

He has a point though. Lame matchup, and UFC cards have been going downhill for a while.

How is it a lame match-up for a free show? It’s like these types of fan boys will cry about any little thing.

I like this matchup. I have enjoyed watching these figthers for years. Always good when two favorites go at it.

Mousasi gave Machida 2.0 a good fight. He should beat Munoz, easy.
