Mark Munoz will fight Roan Carneiro at UFC 184 in Los Angeles, according to a report on Wednesday.

“UFC Tonight” revealed the pairing during their broadcast. UFC 184 will take place on Feb. 28 at Staples Center.

Munoz was set to make his comeback from injury with a UFC 184 fight with Caio Magalhaes. The ink on the contract wasn’t even dry yet before Magalhaes had to withdraw from the bout due to an infection that will apparently affect his timing for the February card.

Carneiro will be making his return to the UFC with the Los Angeles fight. The last time he was in the Octagon, Carneiro fought Ryo Chonan, dropping a split decision at UFC 88 in 2008. He’s gone 7-1 since his last UFC tenure.

UFC 184 is scheduled to be headlined by a middleweight title fight between champion Chris Weidman and challenger Vitor Belfort.

What weight class? Carneiro is a welterweight and Munoz a middleweight…

I’ve read on two other sites that it’s at MW. Doesn’t make much sense since Roan hasn’t fought at MW as far as I know.

especially since it’s still 2 months away. i guess when the ufc calls, you don’t really worry about what weight class you’re fighting in.

anyway i think this is a good fight for both guys. either roan gets a win over a name guy or mark gets a much needed w. i think we’ll see carneiro drop down to ww afterwards regardless of the outcome.

I see that as the most probable outcome – Munoz wins and Carneiro returns to welterweight – which makes this fight totally pointless to me.

the “point” is to sign an experienced free agent on a streak and hope that mark gets a win, but don’t be surprised when munoz finds a way to lose though.
