Mark Hunt Pride NYE 2005-478x270Mark Hunt has signed a new six-fight deal with the UFC and he will likely retire from fighting upon fulfilling his contract, according to a report on Wednesday.

Hunt spoke with UFC Tonight and explained that rumors about him considering an immediate retirement were unfounded, and the fighter is very happy with his new deal.

Hunt last fought in the UFC in December of 2013 in a memorable heavyweight bout against Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva. The two traded strikes for five rounds to a draw, and the fight is widely considered one of the best heavyweight fights of all time.

Shortly after the bout, it was revealed that Silva was flagged for elevated testosterone, and the fighter was suspended for nine months.

Hunt is currently signed to face Roy Nelson at a UFC Fight Night card on Sept. 2o. The bout will headline the event, which takes place at the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan.

I like Mark, but he is nothing more than a gate keeper. Like Big Country, I wish he would have gotten into better shape and really pushed himself to be the best he could have been. DC is doing what both of them should have done.

I agree. I can only imagine what Hunt would have accomplished if he was about 25 with his skill set now. He would’ve been champ but at this point he’s just too old to improve.

Consider that Mark Hunt has achieved more in his career, both in kickboxing and in MMA, than Crocop…

          Oh hell yeah

Exactly. At 5′ 10” he is to short to be competing at HW at his age.

Yeah he’s a good competitor and in this sport anything could happen. But all the top level fighters end up dominating him, but he’ll fight and take punishment too. I like fighter’s that can take punishment it’s fun to watch.

If Hunt put together a 4 fight streak he will get a title shot. Shot 3 wins might do it. It is the heavyweight division where anyone in top 10 can get a opportunity with a couple impressive wins.

I’m pretty sure anyone looking to get a title shot had to go through JDS and we already know what happened last time they fought ..but I’d like to see that fight again ..

Depends on who he beats. Big Country is not going to put him on that track, it’s just an entertaining fight.
