Following a loss at UFC on Fox over the weekend as a result of an accidental headbutt, representatives for Mackens Semerzier have filed an appeal with the California State Athletic Commission.
Semerzier’s manager, Brian Butler of Suckerpunch Entertainment, first announced that he was filing an appeal just after the fight ended on the company’s Twitter account. On Monday, he followed through with the necessary paperwork.
Semerzier faced Robert Peralta as part of the UFC on Fox preliminary fights that aired on Facebook Saturday night.
As Semerzier and Peralta swung at each other, the fighters ducked down to throw punches and their heads clashed together.
The result was Semerzier getting rattled from the accidental headbutt and he crashed to the mat. Peralta followed up with strikes until referee John McCarthy jumped in for the stoppage.
Peralta was declared the winner by third round TKO, but the replay clearly showed that a headbutt, and not a punch, ended Semerzier’s night.
Suckerpunch Entertainment has filed an appeal with the California State Athletic Commission, who will issue a formal decision at a later date.
If overturned, the fight could possibly be ruled a no-decision.
