A gruesome leg injury ended Jason MacDonald’s last trip to the Octagon, but the Canadian is now healed up and ready to return to action as he gets the chance to fight in Montreal once again as he faces Renzo Gracie student Rafael “Sapo” Natal in a middleweight bout on the UFC 124 undercard.
The bout was confirmed to MMAWeekly.com by sources close to the event on Wednesday, and was also announced by Natal’s management group Dominance MMA as well.
After an exit from the UFC in the first part of 2009, Canadian Jason MacDonald (24-14) got right back on the horse, and amassed a 3-1 record to get a shot back in the Octagon in mid 2010.
Facing John Salter in his return fight, MacDonald was taken to the mat and immediately knew something was wrong. A severe leg injury stopped MacDonald’s night, but after surgery and rehab, he’s return to get back to business, and he gets to do so in his home country of Canada.
Looking to spoil MacDonald’s return will be Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu ace and Renzo Gracie student Rafael “Sapo” Natal (12-3). After finishing former UFC middleweight title contender Travis Lutter, Natal got his shot in the UFC for the first time, but came up short against American Top Team fighter Rich Attonito.
Now determined to pick up a win, Natal will hope to do so against MacDonald on his home turf, as he makes the trip to Montreal for their 185lb showdown.
The bout between MacDonald and Natal will serve as part of the undercard for the show, set to go down on Dec 11 in Montreal, headed up by Georges St. Pierre against Josh Koscheck in the main event.
