It took several months to get to this point, but little more than a minute lapsed in the Bellator Fighting Championships welterweight title bout on Friday night before the promotion’s first champion was crowned. Bellator XI took place at the Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Conn.

After clinching early and going to the mat, Lyman Good started his ground and pound attack, edging Omar De La Cruz into the cage. Posturing up, Good then started winging away with big right hand blows that De La Cruz couldn’t defend and the fight was stopped.

Good walks away not only with the first ever Bellator welterweight championship, but a $100,000 payday.
