Posted on by Mick Hammond

Luis Sapo SantosAfter back-to-back losses had him out of Bellator, 13-year veteran Luis “Sapo” Santos has rebounded with three straight wins and has positioned himself as one of the premier fighters in the XFC.

When asked about his current winning streak, Santos replied, “The victories are coming in a natural way; I always expect a tough fight (and for that) reason I always train enough for my (opponents).

“I’m not doing anything different, just putting into (action) what I have been doing this in the gym and it’s working well.”

Santos feels he’s been able to focus on to the next stage of his career since joining the XFC.

“Bellator was a great home for me as it was,” he said. “The XFC is the new phase in my career where I’m focused on being the world champion at welterweight.”

Santos’ next step in that journey to claim the 170-pound XFC title will be on Friday, when he takes on fellow hot-streaking Mauricio Alonso in Nashville, Tenn.

“I’m not (anticipating) problems in fighting Mauricio. I am determined to emerge victorious from this struggle,” said Santos.

Santos told MMAWeekly.com that as long as he keeps on his current streak, he’s the fighter to beat at 170 pounds.

“I always believe in my victory to be (the) superior welterweight,” he said. “(However, I) have to keep myself always victorious. I’m working hard to reach my goal of being the owner of the title shot (in) XFC. I want to celebrate with my family when I get to my objective.”

As well as his family being a big part of what drives him, Santos is also pushed to succeed by the fans that stand behind him.

“I like to thank my supporters,” he concluded. “I would always have the positive energy of my fans because I always promise of my max for you guys in the XFC cage.”
