If there is
anyone that knows if Chuck Liddell is ready for the fight of his life when he
steps into the Octagon with Wanderlei Silva on Saturday night, it is his
trainer, John Hackleman.

“He’s very
well prepared … he’s ready,” said an unwavering Hackleman.

After seven
consecutive victories, the former Ultimate Fighting Championship titleholder
has dropped his last two bouts in a row. But his opponent has done the same, albeit
in the Pride ring.

According
to Hackleman though, that is just a matter of fact in mixed martial arts due to
the grueling match-ups that the sports top fighters must face.

“I would
love to see him have a tune-up fight, but the UFC is not like boxing,” imparted
Liddell’s trainer. “The UFC wants every fight to be a war and it is. It’s one of
the reason’s the UFC is where it is today.”

Like most
fans, Hackleman is expecting the bout with Silva to be the defining war of
Liddell’s career. It doesn’t seem to matter that each fighter is coming of
back-to-back losses for the first time in their respective careers.

“It’s the
biggest fight he could ever have. I’d rather see this fight than him fight
anyone else.”

Of course,
Hackleman believes that his fighter will prevail, primarily because he presents
an issue that not many of Silva’s opponents have, extreme knockout power.

“I think he’ll
be a little more tentative,” he said of Silva’s usual aggressive approach. “(I
think he’ll be) a little more wary of Chuck’s power.”

Saturday
night will tell the tail.
