Leonard Garcia is going to get a chance to fight again sooner than expected. He last fought to a draw with George Roop at WEC 47 on March 6 in Columbus, Ohio, but will now step in for teammate Cub Swanson at WEC 48 on April 24.
Garcia (13-5-1) will face “The Korean Zombie,” Chang Sung Jung, on World Extreme Cagefighting’s first pay-per-view event, scheduled for the ARCO Arena in Sacramento, Calif.
Prior to the draw with Roop, Garcia dropped a unanimous decision to Manny Gamburyan. He’ll be looking at the fight with Jung as a chance to correct course, although it may not be an easy task.
Jung (10-1) is considered one of the top Korean prospects. He has fought mostly in the Japanese promotions Pancrase, DEEP, and Sengoku, where he is coming off of a victory over Matt Jaggers.
It was unclear at the time of publication why Swanson had to withdraw from the bout.
A featherweight title showdown between current champion Jose Aldo and former champion Urijah Faber heads a strong line-up at WEC 48: Aldo vs. Faber.
