A pair of NCAA champion wrestlers will face off at UFC on Fox 3 when Josh Koscheck meets Johny Hendricks on May 5 in New Jersey.

UFC President Dana White announced the bout on Sunday via Twitter.

Josh Koscheck will meet Hendricks with possibly a little bit of revenge in mind also. Hendricks’ last competed in Dec 2011 when he knocked out Koscheck’s good friend and teammate Jon Fitch at UFC 141.

The win marked Hendricks’ third win in a row and one more could mean a title shot for the former Oklahoma State Cowboy.

Looking for a third win in a row of his own will be Josh Koscheck who slipped by Mike Pierce in his last fight at UFC 143.

Immediately after the fight and then speaking with MMAWeekly.com, Koscheck revealed that he exited his former team at American Kickboxing Academy and would resume his training at his own facility in Fresno instead.

The bout between Koscheck and Hendricks is the third confirmed televised fight for the UFC on Fox 3 card, with one more fight still to be announced for the four fight show airing on May 5 from the IZOD Center in New Jersey.

I said this fight should happen right after Hendricks beat Fitch. I’m hoping Hendricks can do to Kos what he did to Fitch, but I wouldn’t bet on it.

huh? fighting koscheck is a bit of a step down for hendricks…he should be fighting the winner of sanchez vs ellenberger…the guy knocked out fitch in a couple seconds…who was suppose to be #2 welterweight in the world…koscheck looked terrible in his last fight with pierce…i don’t like this match up

I don’t think that it is a step down for Hendricks. Kos has only two losses in his last eight fights, one was a early ref stopage KO by Thiago. Then to GSP. I think this makes sense. Then the winner gets Ellenberger/Sanchez winner. Which would let Condit fight GSP next (the way it was meant). Then whoever comes out of this fights fight for the title. The only way it makes sense without Diaz in the picture anymore.

I will be at my friend Miguel’s fight so I won’t be watching this FOX card. Hopefully this one doesn’t put everyone to sleep. Hendricks will knock Koscheck out too, it might take him twice as long as it did to KO Fitch though.

I noticed people seem to like to make a path for a champion to have 1 contender. Then claim that route to be the one, or only one, that makes sense.
It’s like people make little mini tourneys with the top 4, or 6 guys, and the winner of that gets the title shot. It makes sense to do that if it’s the last time the champion plans on fighting.
If the winner of hendricks and kos fights the winner of Sanchez and ellenberger. Then that winner fights the winner of Gsp and condit, then who’s left to fight? The only way it works is if the champ loses.
I agree it helps prove the legit number one contender, but it takes out the rest of the top 5 in the process.
I’d rather see the champs next 3 fights be against the number 2,3, and 4 guy, then all those guys fighting eachother and the champ fighting one of them. Then sitting on his a$$ being left with top 15 guys left to fight.

A good example of the UFC doing this is the lhw division. They kept Jackson, rashad, machida, and hendo away from eachother. Rashad got handed Tito, then Davis got a chance to get in the top 5.
If the top 5 only fight eachother then it’s hard for them to drop out, or anyone else to jump in. Hendo vs. shogun wasnt that scary because hendo could have just went to 185lbs and been a top guy even had he lost.

I wrote a bunch, but it’s because I don’t feel like I’m finding how to explain what I mean. I hope it can be understood.

I thought I understood what you were trying to say, then you brought up the 205ers. Rashad has fought Rampage and Machida, Machida has fought Jackson, Hendo has fought Jackson….
    Tito was a late replacement.
    Hendo can’t make 185 anymore.

The fans like the tourney idea but the UFC gives shots to guys in the top 10 based on injuries, time frames and what is the most marketable.
