King Mo Lawal took the win over Satoshi Ishii at Bellator 169 on Friday at the promotion’s Dublin debut, but it wasn’t the big splash that Bellator surely hoped it would be.
Neither fighter mounted much damage throughout the fight. The action primarily consisted of Lawal landing a few punch combinations before deftly avoiding the power behind Ishii’s 25-pound weight advantage. In each round, Lawal timed his takedowns and planted Ishii on his back, but was unable to find a way to finish the fight.
After three rounds, the judges awarded Lawal a unanimous decision, all three of them scoring it 30-27.
The first round was a close one, but in round two, Gallagher started to edge ahead with some damaging leg kicks. In the third and final round, it didn’t take long for Gallagher to climb onto Taylor’s back and sink the rear-naked choke for the finish.
Daniel Weichel staked his claim as one of the top featherweight contenders by submitting Brian Moore with an arm-triangle choke late in the opening round of their bout.
