Japanese star Norifumi “Kid” Yamamoto makes his long-awaited return to the Octagon to face Roman Salazar in a UFC 184 bantamweight bout on Feb. 28. UFC officials announced the match up on Wednesday.
Yamamoto (18-6, 1 NC) holds the record for the fasted knockout. It took him just four seconds to finsh Kazuyuki Miyata via flying knee at Hero’s 5 in 2006. The Japanese standout made his UFC debut at UFC 126, losing to Demetrious Johnson by unanimous decision. He’s yet to pick up his first UFC win, losing all three of his fights inside the octagon. He last competed at UFC 144 in February 2012, losing by submission to Vaughn Lee.
Salazar (9-3) made his promotional debut at UFC Fight Night: MacDonald vs. Saffiedine on Oct. 4 riding a four-fight winning streak. He lost to Mitch Gagnon via submission in the first round. Both Yamamoto and Salazar are looking to log their first UFC win.
UFC 184 takes place at the Staples Center on Feb. 28, 2015 in Los Angeles and features two title fights. Middleweight champion Chris Weidman puts his title on the line against Vitor Belfort in the main event while women’s bantamweight titleholder Ronda Rousey faces Cat Zingano in the co-main event.
